"Fast and Furious 7 (Wan, 2015)"
Sat Nov-01-14 08:18 PM by ZooTown74

If Jason Statham wasn't enough to get you amped for the latest F&F experience, Ong Bak's Tony Jaa has chosen it for his US studio premiere.

"I have been a big fan of the Fast and Furious franchise. The films are fast paced, fun and keep the audience involved. There is a great mix of humor and action, something I really appreciate. There is no better film to be involved in for a first U.S. studio production."

between Statham and Jaa (there HAS to be a fight between them!!!) You need a director who REALLY gets martial arts action. I hope Wan knows what he's doing. Shitty fast cut scenes could REALLY ruin the potential of this flick.

The last three alone make that case. The first is a pretty undisputed classic, 2Fast is on some Cult shit and 3 wound up bridging us into the awesome spectacle that will likely be 7. After that? The list of pure action (i.e, not including sci-fi shit) franchises fucking with this one will be hard to list.

n the way they were able to keep majority of the extended cast together for the duration, AND rebrand the entire franchise into what it is NOW, is so fucking cool lol. the shit just works. i for sure thought Fast 5 was untoppable, but then 6 happened...and now 7 is sounding even more nutso. also at its core, it manages to build on its overall mythology by sticking to its own continuity and not retconning the everloving shit out of itself.

there is so much to love bout this series.

i hope it stays an on-going thing, like, they could make 10 of these and i'd still be on board and super pumped.

The action is so fun and over the top that you overlook the clearly horrible dialogue ("I GOT THIS" being uttered no more than 4 times in FF6) and weird direction (that damned post chase dialogue between Letty and Dom in that abandoned parking lot or whatever).

It knows it's role and has NO intent of venturing outside of it. I'm fine with that.

It's what the Die Hard series was supposed to do.

i'm out.

They also took down a fucking airplane with some cars and harpoon guns. The world they've built doesn't need to be "realistic" to be quality, unless you're clinging to some narrow ass definition. You may as well stivk with documentaries.

People don't understand that Fast & Furious (and other movies) are set in their own universes where physics is heightened and a made up world police agency has the jurisdiction to command a UN military unit.

If the Rock has superpowers in this one, so what? The whole series has established that everybody in this movie has super ultra awesome driving skills. It isn't like he punched a plane out of the sky (not that I wouldn't mind).

The reason why people don't like the latest Die Hards is because McClane doesn't get fucked up anymore. They made him into this indestructible action hero all of a sudden and it makes the film suffer.

i'm out.

If I care about the characters and they give me cinematic "moments" within the absurd action, I won't care about physics. That's what Justin Lin does so well: he knows how to craft those moments we remember (the safe, Vin jumping across the freeway to catch Letty, etc).

The fifth Die Hard fails cuz it gives us no reason to care for the characters nor does it give us memorable cinematic moments. It's mostly incoherent nonsense. At least the fourth one gives us a couple of marquee action shots (the car into the helicopter, the Maggie Q fight in the elevator, etc).

Nathalie Emmanuel has been cast in Fast & Furious 7, out from Universal next July. The studio is keeping character descriptions under wraps, but a source close to the James Wan-directed project says Emmanuel will be part of the pedal to the metal team led by Dom Toretto, played by Vin Diesel. The British actress is currently seen on HBOs Game of Thrones in the recurring role of Missandei, personal aide to exiled princess Daenerys Targaryen.

http://www.slashfilm.com/tokyo-drift-star-lucas-black-returns-for-fast-and-furious-films-7-8-and-9/

This news literally made me jump out of my seat with pure, franchise-linking excitement. Lucas Black, the actor who played the lead character Sean in The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, will reprise his role in James Wans Fast and Furious 7. But thats not all. His contract installs him as a new series regular and hell be back for not only the 2014 installment, but at least two more after that. Yes, were likely getting at least three more Fast and Furious movies.

Deadline broke the news.

For those who may not know, though The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift was released years before the fourth, fifth and sixth films in the series, it takes place after them in the timeline. Why is that? Because director Justin Lin loved actor Sung Kangs performance as the character Han so much, he decided to bring him back for the fourth film even though he killed him in the third. Lin made inside jokes about the continuity error in subsequent installments before finally linking the franchise back at the end of the sixth film.

SPOILERS FOR FAST AND FURIOUS 6

In the credits scene for Fast and Furious 6, we see Han driving in a scene straight out of Tokyo Drift. Its the scene where he gets into a car accident and dies. The footage is almost straight out of the third movie, except when its revealed the man who killed Han is the brother of the deceased bad guy Vin Diesels Dom killed at the end of Fast and Furious 6, played by Jason Statham. It all came together.

Then, at the end of Tokyo Drift, Dom shows up in Tokyo and meets up with Sean, who has been the lead character of his movie and a friend of Han. They meet briefly. Doms past friendship with Han acts as the ice breaker, and the film ends. This scene, obviously, takes places in the Fast and Furious 7 timeline.

END SPOILERS

Knowing all that, its not really a surprise Black is returning for the franchise. It makes perfect sense in the scheme of things. Plus, his ability to drive would make him a great addition to Doms crew, hence him showing up in multiple installments. So thats all well and good. What makes me so, unbelievably excited by this news is how my long time fandom of Tokyo Drift is finally paying off.

While many consider Tokyo Drift to be the worst installment in the franchise, its long been my favorite, simply because it was the most purely car-centric of the group. Plus its really nothing more than a teen movie. It holds a spot in my heart for its sheer innocence and gloss. And to see that film now becoming a crucial installment in much larger franchise makes me jump for joyeven if Black will be about eight years older in the blink of an eye.

Are you excited about Black returning to the Fast and Furious franchise? And yes, this means were likely getting at least three more Fast & Furious movies.

The way they write him out of the series was perfect and makes so much sense.

The movie keeps one upping itself at every turn even if it's a little long. Too long IMO (136 minutes), they things should be less than 2 hours.

But yea, they should do one more to wrap up the series. There's no need to make more after an eighth installment.

The Rock pretty much singlehandedly resurrected this series in Five and it kills me that he spent like 3/4ths of this movie in a hospital bed when he could have been wrecking shop.

Seriously though the ending had a bunch of grown men crying and it was pretty much the perfect send off for Paul Walker... RIP.

they were acting like super heroes in this one. Not enough Rock or the woman he opened the movie with

cliff scene was awesome

Dubai scene was great

Tyrese was funny

Remy was fine as hell

but the DTLA shit was over the top in a bad way. Dom and Statham were like mini incredible hulks and the story was just laughable at times.

I loved 6, but this was next level.

It gets four stars for sheer absurdity and blatant disregard for things like logic and physics.

Only minor things was that I was actually rooting for the bad guys in this one, because Jason Stratham was bringing the fury. He was all about the bidness and it was much more interesting than Vin talking about how important family is (which he did many, many times).

Plus, TONY JAA.

But NOTE: There is NO after the credit scene.

Maybe they aren't planning a F&F 8 after all. They definitely left the door open, but didn't guarantee it. It's probably because they wanted to end as a tribute to Paul Walker instead of marching right on to the next chapter.

Slight SPOILER:

Actually my one legit but small complaint was that it was obvious that Kurt Russell's character was supposed to die, when he gets shot his head cocks back like he was clearly shot in the head, but then he's somehow okay. It seems like originally he got got but it tested poorly. And really, that's how it was for everyone in this. All the big names either don't die, or "die" in such an ambiguous way that the door is always open to bring them back and explain how they miraculously survived.

This one just didn't have the same... pop? ... as the last 2. There was a ton going on in the beginning, and then the action scenes, while entertaining, just kept me laughing and shaking my head. The characters are like the Justice League at this point, they can damn near do anything within this world. Statham always being there wherever the characters were too was a little extreme, and Letty suddenly remembering everything. The movie's action did not have the same appeal as The Rock vs. Vin, the bank vault behind the cars, Michelle Rodriguez vs. Gina Carano, The Raid dude fighting in the subway, and the runway.

That said, the best thing the movie did was the Paul Walker tribute at the end. I would be very pleased if they stopped with this movie (and they should). When I think of Fast & Furious, I think of Paul Walker, not Vin Diesel. I'd be down for a Hobbs spin-off (which has been mentioned a couple times). They've already said there'd be another one in NYC with Kurt Russell again, so, we'll see.

a bank vault through Rio. Also, in 6 when Vin Diesel flew though the air caught Letty and landed on a car and brushed himself off. Vin Diesel busting through the front of the of a exploding plane and the car getting fucked up, he walks away with a few scratches. Roman's car crash during the chase in London in 6. And probably a few more I'm forgetting.

Point is these niggas been superheroes.

I think that was sometime in 4, that is when they lost any sort of grounding in reality. Spoiler, but Jason Statham and Vin Diesel were taking multiple shots to the body and head with pieces of steel in this one and not even bleeding. Statham had a god damn parking garage collapse on him and he survived.

also I don't know why I kept waiting for Paul's character to die and when he didn't I was relieved but confused, because that means they open it up for future parts, but they can't

but this was better than 6 and the Caucus Mountains action sequence might just be the best of the series. That was incredible action filmmaking. Unfortunately, like Ghost Protocol and many other recent action-films the second act action sequence is so good that all that comes after can't possibly top it and tends toward tedium after a while.

I'm not clamoring for another Wan-led installment (or any other installment really) but he did well and made the departure of Lin smart less.

It was a fun, summer movie and despite my issues with it from a story standpoint and having to suffer through too much Diesel/Rodriguez's uncomfortably lack of chemistry (I mean, I believe Dom and Hobbs are more in love than Dom and Letty) it was a great start to the summer movie season.

The revamped ending was really well done and was the perfect send-off for Walker and his character. It was heartfelt, respectful, classy.

is up there with the bank vault and the mexican border tunnel sequences

Abu Dhabi scene: Brazil resort scene with Han and Giselle.
Misandei is completely out of control, that's a BAD woman right there

It should end here. Obviously it's left open for it to go on but what's the point? Like O'conner said it all started when he walked into the shop and got the bad tuna sandwich. So it should end with him. Hobbs can do a spin off with appearances by Dom.

The only thing I didn't like was Letty all of sudden "remembered everything" FOH. I'm all for climbing buses falling off cliffs but amnesia being cured in a flash is BS.

yeah I think the Caucus Mtn sequence was the best sequence in the history of the franchise. So well done.

I really enjoyed the Dubai sequence as well aside from Ronda Rousey's wretched line reading. Her fight scene with Letty was awesome and definitely rivaled the Carano scene in 6. Plus the car jumping across three buildings (not two)

Also Russell was a great addition to the franchise he really got into the spirit of things and you could tell he was having fun

I can **almost** buy that, she was remebering bits and pieces the whole movie and being in the mix with everyone again was likely to make her recall things.

I'm playing devils advocate a little, but I'll buy it. **almost**

***If you haven't seen 6 but you're in this thread, don't cry about spoilers***

That said, SPOILERS:

The whole movie felt like something was missing with Han and Giselle gone and Mia firmly in the background. I assumed Roman and Tej would get more time to shine in this, a little more of those family moments, but it felt like we got even less of them.

Elena showed up for what amounted to a cameo while The Rock had what amounted to two cameos. Granted, F&F was always about Bryan and Dom, but 5 and 6 really drove home the family element in a big way and that dynamic was missing here.

I really enjoyed this in spite of that gripe. I do think the hacker subplot was lacking. I would have preferred more Shaw and more Nobody instead of that wooden ass Korath impersonation Djimon put on. In the grand scheme of things whatever that mission is it's a mere backdrop for the action scenes, but this one felt particularly weak.

The one action scene I didn't like was the shit with the drone. That didn't measure up to anything else in 5,6, or 7 to me.

I pretty much loved the rest though. The building scene, the batshit mountain scene, Stathams fight scenes, Walkers fight scenes with Ja, Rousy/Rodriguez, all that shit was fire. We got a heart wrenching sendoff for Paul Walker. He'll remain one of the most beloved action stars with one of the most beloved action characters in my lifetime and that was a beautiful sendoff.

I'd have to re-watch 5 sometime, but 7 is clearly ahead of all the other installments. Wan did well -- there were plenty of familiar "bro/family/love" speeches but the pace was better than the last two and he added some stylish cinematography (rotating with a character who's getting slammed, the little "tracking" shot on the bus escape, etc).

the bus cliffhanger tho! an incredible set piece, among several very good and inventive ones.

Spiderman 3 villain syndrome is really the only flaw.

That mountain scene was absolutely incredible man...the rest was fun as hell but that scene was just next level. Obviously enjoyed it but 5 is still my favorite of the "heist" style, followed by 6, then this one. That being said, Han handled it quite well with nice touches of his own...the rotations, the depth shot inside the bus...def handled well. Anyone else have Uncharted 2 flashbacks during the bus cliff scene? Lol

I gotta say the tribute to PW was so well done man. RIP.

I may be "wrong" but 5 and 6 felt less like drawn-out spectacle like this one did.

There really shouldn't be any complaints about "plausibility" at this point. You get what you get with these movies, and asking for them to be "grounded in reality" at this point is a little bananas.

I actually thought the sequence with the car flying through the two buildings was more exciting than the Caucasus mountains sequence.

Also, Michelle Rodriguez in a red dress.

The Paul Walker tribute was moving and well-done. Writer Chris Morgan said that he and the creative team never entertained the thought of killing off Paul Walker's character, so there's that. He also said that he scripts out most of the set pieces and makes sure they have a three-act structure of their own.

Nicely done.

fast furious 8 release date 2017 Fast & Furious 8 Gets Official 2017 Release Date

Fast and the Furious franchise producer Neal H. Moritz only just promised that news about Fast & Furious 8 would be coming soon – turns out, he meant “today.”

Vin Diesel was present at the Univeral Pictures panel at the ongoing 2015 CinemaCon in Las Vegas, when the announcement was made that the eighth Fast and the Furious movie will be opening in theaters in 2017. An official title for the project has not been settled on just yet, though this franchise has frequently mixed things up with its titles (see: 2 Fast 2 Furious, Fast Five, Furious Seven) – so odds are this new film won’t just be called Fast & Furious 8, either.

Fast & Furious 8 is now scheduled to open in theaters on April 14th, 2017 – very close to two years exactly after Furious 7 bowed in theaters, smashing box office records along the way. Currently, Furious 8 is set to face-off against the Scarlett Johansson-headlined Ghost in the Shell live-action movie during its opening weekend, while the Guillermo del Toro giant robots vs. monsters sequel Pacific Rim 2 will have arrive a week earlier.

Don’t be surprised if Ghost moves away from a showdown with Dominic Toretto and his family; Pacific Rim 2 certainly will, since the Legendary Pictures production is being distributed by Universal.

justin lin vin diesel fast furious Fast & Furious 8 Gets Official 2017 Release Date

The date for Fast & Furious 8 does lend support to the previous report that Justin Lin (director of four Fast and the Furious movies to date) is being courted to return for Furious 8 – possibly, directing both it and Furious 9 to conclude the third Furious film trilogy (as well as the Fast and the Furious movie franchise). Lin will begin production on Star Trek 3 within a month or two for a Summer 2016 release; the way things are going, he may well be available to work on Furious 8 thereafter.

Furious 7 director James Wan, meanwhile, is going to return to the horror genre by directing The Conjuring 2 next – and may be preoccupied with other projects by the time Furious 8 begins shooting. Beyond that, Lin has arguably proved best able to handle both this series’ action and character interaction scenes, anyway – so here’s to hoping the latter is able to return to the series he helped build up.

kurt russell fast furious 7 8 Fast & Furious 8 Gets Official 2017 Release Date

Here’s what we know and/or have heard rumored about Fast & Furious 8 (which, presumably, Fast and the Furious franchise scribe Chris Morgan will pen) thus far:

The story will at least partially take place in New York.
Kurt Russell’s “Mr. Nobody” will return in an expanded role, as Dom and his crew get pulled deeper into the world of shadowy government officials and covert operations to stop mercenaries and terrorists-for-profit (introduced in Furious 6 and further developed in Furious 7).
Since the U.S. government will continue to play a role in the proceedings, Eva Mendes as Agent Fuentes may return to the fold.
Lucas Black, who reprised as Sean Boswell briefly in Furious 7, may well join Dom’s team, seeing as Black is reportedly already contracted for two more Fast & Furious movies.

More details will become available over the months ahead, but for now suffice it to say: the Fast and the Furious movie franchise isn’t going anywhere, not now the brand is stronger (commercially and critically) than ever it was before. The downside is that the series will have to carry on without Paul Walker, but at least Furious 7 managed to give the late actor a worthy (and heartstring-tugging) sendoff.

I get what they are and what they've become, but come on. The acting in this is so cringe-worthy, it's painful to watch.
