"You're Next (Winguard, 2013)" Wed Aug-07-13 11:13 AM by Frank Longo
I caught an early screening of this last night. This was some fun horror shit. The crowd admittedly all horror fans (due to the fact that it was an early screening) were yelling and cheering and ultimately having a great time.
Adam Winguard directed and edited and Simon Barrett wrote it, but man it was really fun.
Sharni Vinson could become a name in the genre great work from her.
the ONLY redeeming quality was lead chick was kinda cute and it was mildy fun making fun of the movie and getting laughs from other folks in the theater.

...we've seen in a long time.
The first 20 minutes were hard to get through due to the bad acting and the dialouge but once shit hits the fan, this is gets really dope really fast.
Winguard does not hold back on the gore (or the humor) and Shari Vinson kicks so much ass in this. Add to the fact the John Carpenter-esque score is so dope and this movie is one of the best horror films in a long time.
Didn't blow my mind, but definitely met my expectations for the most part. Loved when it broke into the 80's synthy score and appreciated the overall nastiness of it all. Agree about the first 20 mins or so of the acting, but as someone said, that could have been intentional. My full review is below:

This movie wasn't good. It's "serious satire"??
It pokes fun with a mean face.
It's like cracking or snapping with a friend of yours and you think you guys are just playing around and friendly, but his snaps are about the personal shit he knows about you.
Very confusing. A Horror comedy that's not really funny. And if it's not funny, then it comes off as stupid.
Not worth going to the movies to see.
Fellas, don't take your lady, she'll be mad at you afterwards.

Sometimes, a movie is just a movie. You work hard for your money.
