But I actually thought that Emma was the best/funniest person in the movie
As usual with Sofia lately, if you're tuning in for some kind of "plot," or "story," then you won't get much
And much like Marie Antoinette, some will be bothered/irritated by the fact that she doesn't really pass judgment on these characters
At least outwardly
Which brings us back to Emma, whose character is all about being famous and putting on a show for the cameras, even when the jig is up and they're facing the consequences of their actions. She gave the movie a jolt whenever she played this character notion up
And while the ringleader of the whole thing, played by Katie Chang, was cute and effective, I couldn't help but think of the ol' stereotypes about the cold, ballbusting Asian woman, a variation of which ol' girl plays here
There's a powerful statement somewhere in here about this generation's penchant for self-promotion and the desire for the glamorous life without having earned it, and how this crime spree plays right into all of that but I couldn't find it, at least not outwardly
BTW, the screening I attended was packed and filled with at LEAST 70% of the target audience for this: young girls who are fascinated by this story and this culture in general
But yeah, I'd just wait for the Netflix
