I thought it was going to be really corny and it ended up being a lot better. Enjoyed the surreal elements of it and really liked the everything falls apart but still works out ending.

Wackness indeed.
The shit was too corny for my liking.
Plus, it didn't feel genuine. And I kept waiting for something to happen. ANYthing. But nope.
They just rode the "cutesy-flick-about-White-kids-in-yuppy-parts-of-NewYork-who-listen-to-WuTangClan?" wave.

Very heartfelt at times and constantly hilarious, I thought this film rang true to everyday life about taggers. It's nice to see a movie about innocent black youth doing their thing trying to get by. Surprised to see that Adam Leon, the writer/director, was white. Also, loved the two leads who are seriously educated. That made me smile. It also made me smile that Meeko who was former gang member, gave a great performance that was expanded after Leon saw that he was killing it. He told us he really wants an acting career and to better his life and not go back to the ghetto. Definitely gonna check it out again.

had a lot of heart, funny moments and a side of NY that is not en vogue in film anymore

at times it does get a bit aimless, and struggles to animate the central conflict or desire of the two leads, but overall i was smiling and enjoying myself

Not like it was a marathon of silent trudging like Meek's Cutoff or something. That's when some of the best exchanges happened . But I have a feeling the talking probably bothered you more than the walking.

I did start to worry about the shoeless kid's arches, though.

NO. YOU. DIDN'T.

NUH UH!!!

or...

it was a bad film built on characters and scenarios that were utterly uninteresting or original.

no doubt in my mind you dumb niggas' affection for this film is built on the awkward clash of classes between a silly ass rich white girl and the young dumb nigga. it lasts for 10 minutes. and it was boring. and it went nowhere. and their second meeting was a cliché. and not a cliché in an earnest true-to-life way. it was a cliche' in the "as soon as her friend opened the door and said her first words to him, we knew where this was going" cliché.

KIIIIIIIIIIDS WAAAAAAAAAAALKING!

Not sure how the multiple t's or g's should be sounded out on that one.

Actually, I just figured your problem was with the characters doing the walking more than the walking.

As my previous post hinted, the second exchange with skull face was the worst part of the movie to me.

I liked the exchanges between the two leads and just about everyone else EXCEPT the Gossip Girls. Funny, good chemistry, all of that. But it's not like I grew up in inner-city New York, so I have no idea if it rings true in that context. Just know it was good enough to keep me invested throughout.

i dunno why folks just can't admit this movie didn't go anywhere and if it were presented as a straight doc, following the lives of two NYC teen taggers for a day, no one would be able to tell the difference. if the PLOT centers on them tryna tag the apple, then they have to fail much bigger than they did...to make an INTERESTING story. the characters in and of themselves are not interesting, dogg.

and if you really wanted to be high-falutin (but not predictable) in referencing a people-sitting-and-talking flick, you ain't even have to take it back to DWA. that half hour of convo in hunger would have been some hot fiya esoteric condescension.

Thought the characters were interesting. Their main objective definitely fizzled out, and I can see how it could make it seem like the movie was too uneventful, but by the time that happened, I had enjoyed everything previous enough to not be bothered by it. You didn't. Cool.

But it's inaccurate to portray this as some tedious art house exercise in form. It's a fun, quick little low-budget movie--nothing to be mad at. Terrible is way too harsh, even though I can see being disappointed by it after the deluge of "You HAVE to see this praise." But I wasn't and I want it to succeed, although I guess it's too late.

I'll have to check out Hunger to step my condescension game up. All I have now is MDWA and KWL. And I made up that last acronym, so I don't even have that.

I haven't seen Gimme The Loot, but I can't tell you how many times I've been told to see a riveting little flick that no one has heard of, and it turns out to be just people walking around, staring off into the middle distance, and occasionally saying dialogue that could've been made up on the spot.

I thoroughly enjoyed it despite some of its flaws.

Nothing went right for these kids and they just rolled with it. Stolen bike, lost shoes, robbed, getting got for your stolen phone (and then not even saying anything to the homie who told you about the spot).

But the film had a lot of heart. And though I'm not from New York, the movie felt so New York. I know people who think, and act just like the characters in the film.

The stuttering and saying lines like Jimmy two times ("im gonna go get the papers get the papers.") kept taking me out of it.

Also could have done with half less dialogue (a lot of it was rough).

Finally, didn't like the music.

Other than that, it was solid enough.
