they had introduced her at the end of that episode.

Also it's amazing how many times they think they can go back to the well of Robyn and Barney getting together. This was the worst case because they at the same time make it clear from the jump that it won't last.

There has still been PLENTY of comedy since then, but warning flags popped up between the Sarah Chalke storyline and the Barney/Robin stuff began.

I want it to end already.

I loved scrubs, it was appointment tv for a long time. but then they toyed with the audience too much and dragged on the inevitable. Thankfully, they gave one hell of a send off, but it could've been sooner.

HIMYM was so damn goof for a few seasons but they're really pushing their audience's patience. We all want to at least meet the mother. If she's a good character, just maybe we're willing to stick around. But if they keep beating this dead horse for another season, especially if it's not gonna have Jason Segel, I might jump ship.

But I can't, because like you I've put too much time in a show I liked.

^^^^^^^^

this is exactly what the issue is. I feel like there this possibility that, just like all the other chicks Ted's messed with, this one will have all these ups and down, that'll last for 3 more season, until fucking finally, the show ends.

But that isn't good enough.

show the wife, have two rocky relationship episode, good bye.

The writers have a lot of funny stuff still in them, but that completely thorough re-telling of the relevant points of the show showed how thick the padding has been.

Either way, it was a good season premiere. The AVClub reviewer was talking about watching this and "Slap Bet" in close proximity and made the point that, as excellent as the earlier episode was, they're really obviously still the same species of show. I'd prefer it if we had eight seasons of episodes in the S1-4 quality, but I think they're still pretty strong. Season five might be the only one I disliked.

But from the above comments (and lack of posts) it looks like PTP has given up on this season, lol. Ah, well, I'm in it for the long haul.

Glad the mid-season finale ended the way it did. I do think that maybe Barney and Robin should have dated again first, before jumping into engagement, but I'm good with how it was executed (i.e., Barney's long con on Robin, involving Ted so that he'd have to let Robin go).

Although, wasn't there another dude that Robin kept bumping into the last few seasons that was supposed to be a potential love interest? Did we ever get to that? Or did I miss it completely?

But put me into the like for the final couple of seconds of the season finale. I was cursing at my tv for what I thought was going to be the end, and what we've all been waiting for sort of happened. I'm really optimistic for how all of the final season (including some fall out) will play out.

We dunno if that's even HER on account of the playing with emotions for 5 years.

I like parts of this show but it'll never be as good as it was seasons 1-3.

Well played CBS. Alpha level troll.

How I Met Your Mother Nightmare Is Coming True
By Margaret Lyons

There was a brief moment Monday night when How I Met Your Mother was maybe solving all of its problems by introducing us to the mother. She's played by Cristin Milioti! We actually saw her! Maybe now the show can go back to its more-pleasant roots and tell us a delightful love story! Alas, it is not to be. CBS president Nina Tassler cleared up some of the speculation about what would happen in the show's ninth and final season. She tells TVLine that the whole season will indeed span just the 56 hours before Barney and Robin's wedding, as some had feared, and will be about "how each character, before Ted, meets the mother. So, they each meet her independently before he does." So if you were tired of seeing Ted Mosby be such a weenie, tough tacos for you.

So, the series finale will be Ted meeting the mom at the wedding then?

And I've heard rumors that they've discussed a How I Met Your Father.

I don't think the last season was as good as the earlier ones, but I'm not hanging on to meet the mother, I'm watching because it's still funny most of the time.

The Mother functions as an excuse to screw with the narrative, either with time or reliability or whatever. That's often a good look for the writers, and it doesn't have to have a huge downside if you're free from caring about The Mother.

I've lost track of what glimpses in the future they showed in previous episodes. It seems like the only thing I remember is that both of them having serious cold feet before getting married. Then I also kind of remember scenes from a happy reception.

Anyway, Kind of hoping that they actually don't go through with it.

I can see the finale being Ted actually getting a chance to be with Robin but he turns it down.

Anyway, this show sucks. Only hate watching it now to see more of the mother.
