wesley snipes or eamonn walker as t'chaka

christoph waltz as ulysses klaw

michael clark duncan as man-ape

damn, though chiewetel LOOKS more like t'challa, Nate Parker is a good choice

I like Wesley at T'Chaka - and it'd be a nice nod to him since he did option the story 1st.

Honestly, tho. I can't think of anyone who really fits the role tho.

ESPECIALLY if it's an origin story. HOW T'Challa BECOMES black panther is through a rigorous PHYSICAL ceremony. Including unarmed combat.

They can't do that in costume - he's not BP yet - and they can't leave it out of the origin story.

Christian Bale went into Batman after doing the Machinist and literally destroying his body for the latter role.

Trained to look the part of Batman even though his muscles couldn't even function the same, on his own account he says the pushups he did where he dropped to the floor in Batman Begins was a nightmare for him.

you just listed two VERY serious actors.

Damon & Bale are THE REAL DEAL. I'm supposed to believe that Nate Parker is on their level?

Really?

Y'all acting like this fear is irrational is COMICAL. How many HORRIBLY edited action films have you seen? I bet WAY more than you can count. YES, actual fight experiece HELPS fight choreography. This is the reason why Wu Ping had Keanu n'em training for like 6mos, so that they would look realistic. Am I supposed to just have FAITH that Nate Parker is gonna do the same?

Really?

Y'all funny.

But we'll see how they play him for the movie - there hasn't been any Earth-based magic in the movies yet.

I could see him being similarly-powered/skilled to Cap.

Also, he is the spiritual/religious leader of his people's cult/tribal religion.

If they are able to effectively juxtapose and/or blend the high tech nature of Wakanda with African spirituality.. this could be a very sophisticated flick.

I don't want them to go the Iron Man route and try to ham it up. I like the Iron Man movies, but the tone of this should be different.

Hopefully, they get some true African martial arts masters to function as stunt people, coordinators, consultants, and/or choreographers on this.

The Black Panther is the ceremonial title given to the chief of the Panther Tribe of the advanced African nation of Wakanda. In addition to ruling the country, he is also chief of its various tribes (collectively referred to as the Wakandas). The Panther habit is a symbol of office (head of state) and is used even during diplomatic missions. The Panther is a hereditary title, but one still must earn it.

In the distant past, a meteorite made of the (fictional) vibration-absorbing mineral vibranium crashed in Wakanda, and was unearthed. Reasoning that outsiders would exploit Wakanda for this valuable resource, the ruler at the time, King T'Chaka, like his father and other Panthers before him, concealed his country from the outside world. T'Chaka's first wife, T'Challa's birth mother N'Yami, died while in labor with T'Challa, so T'Challa would be raised by his father and his father's second wife Ramonda, at least until T'Chaka was murdered by the adventurer Ulysses Klaw. With his people still in danger, a young T'Challa used Klaw's sound weapon on him, gravely injuring him and forcing him to flee. Around the same time, his stepmother Ramonda visited her old home in South Africa. While on this trip she was kidnapped and taken prisoner by Anton Pretorius (T'Challa would not learn of this until years later).

T'Challa was next in line to be the king of Wakanda and Black Panther, but until he was ready to become the leader of the nation, his uncle S'yan, T'Chaka's younger brother, successfully passed the trials to become the Black Panther. While on his Wakandan walkabout rite of passage, T'Challa met and fell in love with apparent orphaned teen Ororo Munroe, who would grow up to become the X-Men member Storm. The two broke off their relationship due to his desire to avenge his father's death and to become the type of man who could suitably lead Wakanda, but they would see each other over the years when they could.

T'Challa earned the title and attributes of the Black Panther by defeating the various champions of the Wakandan tribes. One of his first acts was to disband and exile the Hatut Zeraze—the Wakandan secret police—and its leader, his adopted brother Hunter the White Wolf. Later, to keep peace, he picked dora milaje ("adored ones") from rival tribes to serve as his personal guard and ceremonial wives-in-training. He then studied abroad for a time before returning to his kingship. T'Challa next invited the American superhero team the Fantastic Four to Wakanda, then attacked and neutralized them individually in order to prove himself worthy as his people's defender and to test the team to see if it could be an effective ally against Klaw, who had become a supervillain made of living sound. After the ruler made proper amends to the superhero team, the four befriended and helped T'Challa, and he in turn aided the heroes against the supervillain the Psycho-Man.

T'Challa later joined the Avengers, beginning a long association with that superhero team. He first battled the Man-Ape while with the group, and then met the American singer Monica Lynne, with whom he became romantically involved. He helped the Avengers defeat the second Sons of the Serpent, and then revealed his true identity on American television. He encountered Daredevil, and revealed to him that he had deduced Daredevil's secret identity.
Return to Wakanda

The Panther eventually leaves his active Avengers membership to return to a Wakanda on the brink of Civil War, bringing Lynne with him. After defeating would-be usurper Erik Killmonger and his minions, the Panther ventures to the American South to battle the Ku Klux Klan. He later gains possession of the mystical time-shifting artifacts known as King Solomon's Frogs. These produced an alternate version of T'Challa from a future 10 years hence, a merry, telepathic Panther with a terminal brain aneurysm, whom T'Challa placed in cryogenic stasis.

Later, while searching for and finding his mother, the Panther contends with South African authorities during Apartheid. T'Challa eventually proposes and becomes engaged to Monica Lynne, though the couple never married.

Years later, the Panther accepts a Washington, D.C. envoy, Everett K. Ross, and faces multiple threats to Wakanda's sovereignty. Ross assists him in many of these threats, often fighting side by side (or attempting to). In gratitude, the Panther often risks much for Ross in return. The first main threat to Wakandan soveriengty he and Ross encounter is 'Xcon'—an alliance of rogue intelligence agents—backs a coup led by the sorcerer Reverend Achebe. Afterward, Killmonger resurfaces with a plot to destroy Wakanda's economy. This forces T'Challa to nationalize foreign companies. Killmonger then defeats him in ritual combat, thus inheriting the role of Black Panther, but falls into a coma upon eating the Heart-Shaped Herb—poisonous to anyone outside the royal bloodline, which had a hereditary immunity to its toxic effects. T'Challa preserves his rival's life rather than allowing him to die.

Later, T'Challa finds he has a brain aneurysm like his alternate future self, and succumbs to instability and hallucinations. After his mental state almost causes tribal warfare, the Panther hands power to his council and hides in New York City. There he mentors police officer Kasper Cole (who had adopted an abandoned Panther costume), an experience that gives T'Challa the strength to face his illness, reclaim his position, and return to active membership in the Avengers, whom he helps secure special United Nations status.
Marriage and superhero Civil War
Main article: Civil War (comics)
The marriage of Storm and the Black Panther: Promotional art for Black Panther #18 (Sept. 2006) by Frank Cho.

T'Challa then helps Ororo Munroe (alias Storm), with whom he had a brief romance during his teens, reunite with her surviving family members in Africa and the U.S. He shortly afterward proposes, and the two are married in a large Wakandan ceremony attended by many superheroes. However, he failed to reunite both Captain America and Iron Man because of their opposing views on the Superhuman Registration Act.

One of the couple's first tasks is to embark on a diplomatic tour, in which they visit the Inhumans, Doctor Doom, the President of the United States, and Namor, with only that last ending well. After the death of Bill Foster, the Black Panther and Storm side with Captain America's anti-registration forces. During the end battle between both sides, the Wakandan embassy in Manhattan is heavily damaged, though no Wakandans were hurt. After the confrontation, the Panther and Storm briefly fill in for vacationing Fantastic Four members Reed and Sue Richards before returning to Wakanda.

T'Challa served as one of the pallbearers at the memorial service for Captain America, along with Tony Stark, Ms. Marvel, Rick Jones, Ben Grimm and Sam Wilson.
Passing the mantle

Upon returning to Wakanda alone, leaving Storm in New York to aid the X-Men, Black Panther faces Erik Killmonger, defeating him with assistance from Monica Rambeau (a.k.a. Pulsar). Afterward, Wakanda fends off the alien shapeshifters the Skrulls, who had infiltrated as part of their "Secret Invasion" plan to conquer Earth. Prince Namor, the Sub-Mariner, attempts to recruit T'Challa for the Cabal, a secret council of supervillains. Attacked by the forces of fellow Cabal member Doctor Doom, T'Challa is left comatose. His sister Shuri is trained as the next Panther, with the mantle passing onto her officially after T'Challa awakens from his coma and attempts to recover from his injuries.

After he was tricked and ambushed by Doom and the passing of the Panther mantle, T'Challa lost all of his enhanced attributes given to him by being the panther totem. As a result, he has been working with his sorcerer, Zawavari, to accumulate a replacement. He has since made a pact with another unknown Panther deity, returning his attributes to an even higher level as well as placing incantations on his body, making himself highly resistant to most magic and mystic assaults. This has all been done in preparation for the imminent battle with Doctor Doom, which culminated in T'Challa rendering all of the processed vibranium inert to give his people a chance to rebuild without their dependence on the element.

You can do like Cap and Thor and pick a relative
unknown, because both those characters have visibility
that BP don't have.

You must go with a known commodity.

He don't really look the part, but he can fight, and he can act. I won't be MAD, but I'd like someone who actually looked like BP

Most people can neither recognize his name nor pick him out of a line-up. He was a supporting actor in 2012, Salt, and Children of Men. That hardly makes him the undisputed choice for this film.

He's more than popular enough.

they fumbled the marriage to Storm

the hudlin run was a mess

then they brought in the sister (?) as Panther

then Doom took over Wakanda

then they took the freaking vibranium out

then Panther became a bootleg Daredevil

they honked it all up royally

(the it being the strength, cunning, mystery and respectability that Priest had brought the character to)

This could be a gold mine, along like Iron Man, Thor, and Cap, who, you could argue, weren't big (like Spider-Man and Wolverine) until the movies and Avengers.

I would love to see MJW, but that just won't happen.

Morris Chestnut comments on the Black Panther rumors!
Published at: April 9, 2013, 2:01 p.m. CST

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Boyz N The Hood star Morris Chestnut has created a bit of a speculation storm when he tweeted a photo of a Black Panther cover with the comment "It's time to get familiar with the Black Panther character!" That in and of itself means little, but the fact that he, in short order, took the tweet down says that it's more than just an actor deciding to read up on some Marvel characters.

Is he going to play T'Challa or is it all a crazy mix-em-up? Well, he sent out another tweet today that reads thusly:

Not final. #BlackPanther may be in #avengers2 first. RT @jamaal91604133: @morris_chestnut Can't wait to see this movie. #BlackPanther

— Morris Chestnut (@Morris_Chestnut) April 9, 2013

Those simple two words "not final" at least clears up some of it. He's not just reading for entertainment, but whether or not this means he's in active negotiations is still unclear. We learned from the Jason Mamoa/Guardians of the Galaxy stuff that actors and their management aren't above leaking information in order to build buzz. Everybody wants on the Marvel train now, which is a good thing.

Chestnut's a decent pick for the character. Some have suggested Idris Elba for the role, which is also great, however Black Panther was once voiced by Keith David in the '90s Fantastic Four cartoon and that makes me wish we could turn back time and cast late '80s Keith David. So, scientists, let's get to work on that, shall we?

They obviously know there's interest. And they've brought the character to the forefront in the past few years in comics and animation. I think that they just don't have anyone who has stepped up and said "I want to do this." Because it has to be handled right. They can't just throw any writer or director on it, for fear of a backlash if the creative team is too white.

I need the Hughes Brothers to step up and call Marvel and say "We want to handle this for you."

basically, but Marvel *NEEDS* to get a grip and DO THIS.

they KNOW there's an audience for this movie...

YES!

Give the Hughes Brothers, what? 30-50M to do it? yea it would all be contingent on who Marvel could pin a franchise on, etc. that's a good black actor who could carry this.

yea, they'll have to look cause I can't think of too many who could pull this off save for Chiewitel Ejiofor, Adewale, anyone else?

I wouldn't even be made if they did look at a Derek Luke, Nate Parker, David Oyelowo (sp?), Noel Clarke, etc.

Best choice for T'Challa
1) Fits the physical build for an athletic, agile type of of character.
2) Under 30 yrs old
3) Has been in over twenty films and television shows
4) Isn't well known like other African-American actors, can make this role his own
5) Easily looks like he coudl hold his own against Cap(Chris Evans)
6) Can pull off an accent

BLACK PANTHER

Wesley, Adewale, Idris, etc. too old

Chiewetel not known enough

Noel Clarke, not known enough

Derek Luke, dude from the 4400/House of Cards, Nate Parker, Chad Boseman, etc. not known enough...

basically, this isn't happening and if it does, we will *ALL* be upset at how shitty it is.

i think y'all gon need to give up the ghost on this one.

If Marvel hasn't brought it up significantly recently, AND they're talking about/moving forward with other properties, just assume it's not happening.

deal with it.

we aren't seeing Black Panther *IF* at all, until 2016 or 2017.

Kill dreams? try dealing with the reality it isn't going to happen.

We probably have a better chance of Marvel rebooting BLADE than we do seeing a BLACK PANTHER movie.

but y'all keep deconstructing shit that isn't going to happen in the next two years.

oh yeah and *MOST* of the folk y'all keep naming won't even be able to PLAY Black Panther: Adewale, Idris, Chiewitel, Derek Luke are in their late 30s to mid 40s NOW...by 2016? please.

but i'ma let y'all swim and stew in these delusions of grandeur y'all, ahem, i'm sorry, DREAMS....

RIGHT?! Folk should have KNOWN Black Panther wasn't happening when Marvel started talking about making Ant Man, Guardians of the Galaxy, Dr. Strange, etc.

like Black Panther is a second tier Marvel property, and Marvel went DIRECTLY to the third tier shits and all of that...

niggas need to get right with the reality that BP isn't going to happen...

and if it does, there isn't ANYONE bankable enough to play him. Not even CLOSE

your "not known enough" argument for some of the actors doesn't hold much water, considering Hemsworth was completely unknown and Guardians of the Galaxy is full of nobodies. IF they were gonna make a BP movie they could cast an unknown for the lead and still have bigger names in the rest of the cast.

true but a BLACK ACTOR?

who working now *HAS* that kind of bankability to carry a movie on his own, and put ASSES IN SEATS?

cause, black panther alone isn't going to help recoup whatever budget is greenlit for this movie IF it gets made.

At the moment, the rumor that Chadwick Boseman (42) is being considered is probably the only thing that makes sense...IF they were trying to get a Black panther movie into theaters like next year since he's the only black actor out of all of those listed in this post that has any kind of buzz or heat.

but i'm still going with not known enough in general because save for negroes, and a few enlightened white folk, who knows who these folk are?

i'm sticking with not known enough until one of them POPS and Marvel actually greenlights the movie....

He'd need to be introduced in another film first-- Avengers 2 might not be a bad choice, but then again, if it deals primarily with space invaders, maybe that's not the best setting for him.

Since Phase Three will likely consist of Ant-Man, another Thor, another Cap, another Iron Man (if they can get RDJ in), *maybe* another Guardians flick if it's a hit, and Strange (which they've batted around forever and with magic coming more into play in future films, I doubt this continues to fall through the cracks much longer)...

... Panther might be pushed to Phase Four. Which means something like 2019 at soonest.

Really, if they're not planning on introducing him as part of another film, they need a young star. So unless you're thinking JADEN SMITH AS BLACK PANTHER, COMING SUMMER 2020, Panther will just keep being bumped back until they find the right established superhero story to inject him into.

clearly i'm a joy killer, but folk need to accept that Black Panther isn't coming anytime soon and to let shit go.

Marvel's looking at Doc Strange, Ant Man (test footage was great though), etc. superheroes that are, in theory, below Black Panther in popularity according to the *rabid* fans above...

Feige didn't even MENTION Black Panther in the EW article out this week...that's telling on a *HOST* of levels.

Is actually "closer" to the ultimate universe, as opposed to the 616 (nerd speak)....

That being said, I can see the movies, shadowing the comics and the early volumes of the ultimates....where the Panther was introduced in the second volume and the second animated movie.

Which makes sense, in that, you know Alien invaders aren't only going to invade America.....

for a Black Panther movie to come this decade...

http://insidemovies.ew.com/2013/05/02/iron-man-3-marvel-phase-two/

you should read this.

No MENTION of Black Panther in any contest at all.

and though Phase Three is briefly mentioned I think, nothing there.

so, um, yea...y'all need to keep cooking.

maybe he can do a cameo in the ABC show next season?

but given that *ALL* of your choices are too old, who would be Black Panther? legitimately cause:

Adewale
Chiewetel
Derek Luke
Noel Clarke

and all those named who are mid 30's and ABOVE will be too old for this.

the youngins, mid 30's and below:
Chadwick Boseman
John Boyega
Michael B. Jordan

are fine but will they have ENOUGH of a profile by then to take that role.

y'all can sit here and say "well so and so isn't known enough" but though Boseman is RUMORED to be POSSIBLY considered (no one's really saying for sure, which is problematic because folk seem more amped about the Scarlet Witch and the Silver Surfer popping up in the next Avengers movie than BP), he's going to need to do a few more 42 type roles to even get in the door...

same for the other two...they'll need those high profile roles and some awards to be considered by Feige to go there...

I don't see Feige putting an entire superhero MOVIE on the shoulders of a black actor in that group who doesn't have some kind of status by the time they shoot BP...*IF* it happens.

RDJ is pushing 50 right now, and Mark Ruffalo issn't far behind him. So hypothetically, if they were to start relatively soon, like in the next couple years, Chiwetel would still be a great choice.

As far as the big name thing, it isn't really necessary.

Hemsworth was practically an unknown. Chris Evans may have been familiar to audiences but was by no means a star. He wasn't carrying any blockbusters as the lead. Even RDJ wasn't a "superstar" until IM hit. Shit, go outside Avengers and it's pretty much the same. Hugh Jackman was a nobody. Who was the biggest name in X-Men when it was released? Halle Berry? The bald dude from Star Trek? Tobey Maguire's biggest hit before Spidey was what,....oh wait, he didn't have one. Until the American Psycho superstar Christian Bale put on the cape and cowl the biggest name cast in the lead role of a successful superhero flick was Wesley Snipes(Daredevil may have turned a profit, but it's not a success).

Superhero movies typically have not needed a huge name to open well at the box office. Granted, being that BP is a black superhero a bigger name would help, but considering the success of anything Avengers-related, it would pretty much be a guaranteed hit.

With Phase Three and on. We start with Ant-Man, and I'm assuming sequels to the big 3 films (IM, Cap, Thor), one more new film (they aren't doing a Guardians sequel, unless it's part of IM4), and then Avengers 3. This is assuming the actors will all be back too.

The new film most likely will be Dr. Strange, but there is potential that Black Panther could squeeze in.

I also think there will be more time in between big Avengers movies, so more movies per phase might happen too. This gives opportunities to introduce more and more new characters and spin-offs and such.

and this:

http://insidemovies.ew.com/2013/05/02/iron-man-3-marvel-phase-two/

we'll see sequels of some of the phase 2 movies *AND* there is active talk of a Scarlet Witch movie *AND* spinning off Black Widow and someone will take a crack at the Hulk with Mark Ruffalo....

and I hear Marvel is looking at She-Hulk.

I'm still not seeing Black Panther happening AT ALL until the latter half of this decade, aka 2019...

personally, I don't think Kevin Feige would greenlight a black superhero that *ISN'T* Storm or Blade...

I just don't see it happening.

and Black Panther you really DO need someone of some heft to take on the role. Who has that right now that isn't over the age of 35?

truthfully?

A Scarlet Witch movie? FAIL. This is a worse idea than Guardians of the Galaxy and Ant-Man.

A Black Widow movie? FAIL. None of supporting cast, such as BW, Hawkeye, Falcon, or War Machine should have their own movies.

Iron Man 4, Thor 3, and Cap 3 are surefire bets, as is a Hulk 2 at some point with Ruffalo (although, I consider him more supporting at this point, and shouldn't have another one excpet supporting appearances and Avengers movies).

Black Panther NEEDS to happen, Thor worked for crying out loud, Blade 1 and 2 worked. As for actors, dude from 42 would work, and Chiwetol would be AWESOME in this role. I'd love to see Michael Jai White b/c he's a badass, but he doesn't have the acting chops to pull it off. This could and should work, just a shame there's a cloud hanging over such a cool and promising character. Guardians? Ant-Man? Dr. Strange? C'mon Marvel.

Also, if these reports of them low balling the actors for the next Avengers movie is true, they are already shooting themselves in the foot for the future.

>Black Panther NEEDS to happen

It doesn't need. At all. As a matter of fact, you say "Black Panther" to a non comic reader, I bet the first thing they say isn't "Oh, you mean T'Challa?" and immediately go full on Fox News "IS MARVEL MAKING A MOVIE ABOUT THE BLACK PANTHERS!?"

As for all of this Ant Man/Scarlet Witch/Dr. Strange balking I see in this thread, y'all are dumb. You're talking about three go to characters in the Avengers universe. A Dr. Strange film will be fucking amazing first of all. Ant Man won't be stupid because they're handling it right by giving it to Edgar Wright and letting him play lose with it. And Scarlet fucking Witch *is* the 80s Avengers. Her and Vision. What are we even talking about here? Goddamn it, I want a Black Panther flick too, but you guys are acting all weird about this like we're owed this film.

Oh, and the Blade comment? Blade worked because no one knew it was a comic book movie.

So on to my comment about "the risk." Like I said above, unless the right creative person comes through and makes this their pet project, I don't see Marvel risking their big huge blockbuster standing with the possibility of people on either side of the racial divide losing their shit. Hire a white writer or director and a lot of people (I think rightfully) will lose their shit. Hire a black writer and a black director and Marvel watches the box office hit a glass ceiling. It's fucking bullshit, but it's reality.

I mean, this is just my outlook. I'm not speaking definitively. But there are a lot of people in this thread acting like they don't know why Marvel hasn't jumped on this, when we all know EXACTLY why. Only SankofaII is really coming at this realistic.

Marvel managed to make Iron Man into one of the most popular characters, on a level next to Spider-Man, Wolverine, and dare I say Batman and Superman. Thor is almost there too.

I'm just surprised that in this day and age, we can't get a black superhero movie not called Blade? And I'm not disagreeing with you about Blade, terrible comic book character, great movie character. I only wish Ghost Rider and Punisher were as good as Blade movies were (1 and 2 that is).

Black Panther shouldn't be a hard sell, especially in a world where we're getting a movie with a talking raccoon, and a movie with a hero called Ant-Man. I am looking forward to those movies, all of them, b/c I do think they will be cool, but c'mon, a black character as the headliner of a movie is not as far fetched as that stuff (or maybe I'm way off base with this).

BP wouldn't be a hard sell at all. Easier than freaking Ant-Man.

They could at least do a Heroes for Hire movie, or at least Iron Fist and Luke Cage, which I think could be dope.

Shit, Cloak and Dagger couldn't be any worse than Ant-man or Doc Strange.

My thing is, there are so many cool-ass characters in the Marvel Universe that they haven't even rumored about, yet we're getting stand alone flicks for some of the lamest. Not that I don't have every intention of watching these movies, but that doesn't mean I can't be disappointed with what they currently got lined up to make. I mean, they plucked Blade from out of nowhere and turned that into a decent successful franchise, Marvel have so much potential and at this point it just feels like good characters are being overlooked or wasted.

I hear you, but you're exaggerating quite a bit.

Will some people be confused/turned off by the BP name? Yeah, but not enough to be significant. The interest it would generate from any "controversy" would probably be more positive than negative as far as box office returns, or at the least negate it. It's not that serious.

Ant-Man has been talked about for years, and Marvel has hesitated to make it because he's a shitty character. To me, they're taking a bigger risk making that movie than they'd be taking making BP. Now, it might turn it to be a decent movie in the hands of Edgar Wright, but it will likely be successful because everyone will know that it's part of the Avengers. Anything tied to the Avengers franchise is going to be at least somewhat successful.

To the average movie-goer all that black writer black director is just peripheral shit. It won't matter and they won't care (or even know) if the movie looks good.

And you're right, Marvel doesn't "owe" fans a BP movie. But fans aren't out of line when shitty characters nobody knows or cares about are getting stand alones and characters like BP (and others) aren't even getting mentioned anymore (or at all). THAT'S bullshit.

A topic of discussion among many fans lately is whether Iron Man star Robert Downey Jr. will renegotiate with Marvel Studios for future appearances in their films. The Hollywood Reporter says that the actor met with Kevin Feige and many other executives last night to begin laying out the groundwork for his return. Insiders say that the negotiations looked to his return as the character in the upcoming Avengers 2 and a third "Avengers" film. A fourth Iron Man film was said to not be included in the talks as it is unclear if Downey Jr. is interested in another stand-alone feature as the character.

Beyond the news that Marvel is developing a third "Avengers" movie, THR also revealed that the studio has scripts in development for Ms. Marvel and a reboot of the character Blade (whose screenrights were recently returned to Marvel). Other films still in the pipeline at Marvel, with no production date in sight, include Doctor Strange, Iron Fist, Black Panther and The Runaways.

Furthermore, Kevin Feige spoke with Collider and said there are currently no plans to make spin-off films for the characters War Machine (played by Don Cheadle) or The Falcon (Anthony Mackie in the upcoming Captain America: The Winter Soldier).

Shane Black is moving from Iron Man 3 to Doc Savage

Now that all your money belongs to Iron Man 3, Shane Black won’t be waiting eight years between projects again. Though Black was also prepping an adaptation of the Death Note manga, it looks like his other screenwriting project, Doc Savage, will be the first to move forward, as he’s now officially set to direct from the script he co-wrote with Anthony Bagarozzi and Charles Mondry over at Sony. The classic 1930s and ’40s pulp character is a scientist, physician, adventurer, inventor, explorer, and researcher, trained by scientists from birth for superhuman abilities—basically Indiana Jones amped up to 11, though Doc Savage obviously predates that character by decades. Presumably in Black’s version, Doc Savage also has a witty, parenthetical voiceover narration that comments on his adventures, which surely involve a kidnapping of some sort.

Superman was heavily, erm.... influenced by Doc Savage.

Doctor Strange is a completely different character.

every time a piece of info about BP pops up, its getting posted.

plain and simple.

people know in their heart of hearts Feige isn't green lighting a Black Panther movie.

They keep talking phases and BP isn't in them.

this is the first time he was even addressed in relation to a Marvel Phase (and watch someone spin that into Marvel making it happen. SMH).

I get all this "love" for Black Panther, but like it was stated above, Feige and Marvel DON'T OWE US SHIT.

And the fact that people ALLEGEDLY have been crying for BP to get made, YET Feige is going with Ant Man, Guardians of the Galaxy, Doc Strange, more Capt. America, Thor and Avengers sequels, putting Scarlet Witch and Black Widow into active development, etc.

You would think folk would *GET IT*.

They don't. Henceforth, why this post keeps getting up.

When Feige states an actual DATE for Black Panther plus stating active development (I heard the script that was written was scrapped because it wasn't *THAT* good, etc.) timetables...

just consider BP as not truly being important for Feige and Marvel....

no, YALL REALLY DON'T.

If you did, this post wouldn't have been 170+ REPLIES OF BEGGING, BITCHING, AND DEMANDING MARVEL SERVE ALL Y'ALL NIGGAS WITH SOME SAUCE ON THEY KNEES, MOUTHS OPEN.

Marvel don't owe you, me, the alleged "fans" of Black Panther (cause I suspect most of y'all some Johnny Come Lately motherfuckers at that) NOTHING...

Kevin Feige is going TO DO HIM...aka DO MARVEL, and that don't involve T'CHALLA, WAKANDA, none of that.

but, i'ma let y'all cook and stew and cop them "we get it" pleas, and side eye the bullshit above this. SMH

Did Stan Lee Confirm the Black Panther Movie?
Marvel may indeed be developing a feature for the Prince of Wakanda.
by Max Nicholson
July 1, 2013

During the Wizard World Comic Con in New York City this past weekend, comic book guru Stan Lee was asked about Marvel's current slate of movies planned for Phase Three. In response, Lee may have confirmed the development of the rumored Black Panther film. Here's the quote:

"The people at Marvel are spending hours trying to think 'What'll we do next?' And there's a damn good chance that they will think just what you mentioned because it would be a great idea, and little by little, everything you want to see will come along because they're just like you. They're fans of the stories and are trying to think, 'What will the fans like to see next? What would we like to see next?' So they're working on Ant-Man, working on Doctor Strange; they're working on Guardians of the Galaxy; they're working on God knows what. Did I say the Black Panther also? They're the ones I know about."

It should be noted that while Lee is often credited as an executive producer in Marvel's films, it's mostly just an honorary title. Such as it is, he probably only knows so much about the inner workings of the movie stuff -- although it is entirely possible that he knows something we don't. And the fact that he mentions Black Panther so casually alongside such confirmed titles as Ant-Man, Doctor Strange and Guardians of the Galaxy seems to indicate that it is in development.

Could this explain Marvel recently wanting to meet with Vin Diesel, or is that just wishful thinking?

y'all do realize that even if Stan says it, he's not remotely involved in the actual PRODUCTION of Marvel movies.

that's strictly Kevin Feige.

Stan is getting those EP checks...

but, until Feige SAYS it, this is still going along with being a pipe dream.

plus, for them to get a solid black panther movie out....they'll need to go BACK to the drawing board and rewrite the screenplay (because the original one is complete shit), figure out WHEN this comes out (because this is not coming out in 2014 and I wouldn't hold your breath for it to come out in 2015), etc.

and y'all really okay with Vin Diesel doing this? remember BP will shoot around all the Fast and Furious movies he's signed up to do....

many of y'all will take this as truth but until the ACTUAL HEAD of Marvel says Black Panther is a go...this isn't happening.

being BP. That's just the writer tryna make a reason for Vin Diesel talking to Marvel. That's obviously not a choice. Bottom line is, Stan Lee said it's going down Phase 3. Maybe Feige hasn't said shit yet because it's still Phase 2 flicks that have to be wrapped/promoted. I'm not excited about Vin Diesel, just the fact that the movie is in production.

his name wasn't even mentioned in this post until this article & the only reason why he article even mentions Vin Diesel is because he's black. Just because YOU don't see this movie happening doesn't mean it won't & obviously Marvel sees it happening due to Stan Lee mentioning it along with Guardians of the Galaxy, Doc Strange & Ant Man, all of which are happening.

i never said this movie isn't happening.

Stan Lee mentioning it is fine..but Kevin Feige is doing the DAY TO DAY PRODUCTION of the movies...

until Feige says it, i'll believe it.

I've been pretty clear from get go about this movie. plain and simple.

so miss me with all that above.

Feige didn't even mention BP when HE talked about what was coming out in the Phases.

Great that Stand brought it up...now it actually happening is another issue.

but i'ma let y'all cook. Pull this post up again when Feige OFFICIALLY SAYS BP is happening and post up an ACTUAL date too, ok?

i don't know why folk just are in DENIAL about the fact that BP isn't coming ANYTIME SOON.

why none of you GET this and *CLEARLY* didn't watch the video speaks to this.

he's not amped about doing it. I mean, guardians of the galaxy before Black Panther? THA FUCK?

that video just reiterates what he's been saying all along.

AND, if a BP movie is greenlight, they are not even REMOTELY CLOSE to doing it. the first draft of this was disgustingly horrible.

They'd HAVE to a page 1 rewrite and possibly, do a whole "clean slate" because the first draft had zero charater development and clearly written by folks who don't respect Black Panther or his place in the Marvel Universe.

but, yea y'all keep bringing this up and keep hoping for nothing...

true and they finally *DID* give BP a date...

but what kills me is that BP should have *BEEN* dropped already.

I'm glad it finally got a date and time but I still don't feel amped about this....

because at any point Feige can change his mind and move things around....

But, I am happy this is finally coming...4-5 years after the fact.

Same with Captain Marvel.

>and how this thread should die

first off....multiple people said this shit wasn't happening and had viable PROOF as to why.

We also said IF the movie did happen, of course we'd support it.

the thread should have died because half of y'all kept posting up EVERY damn rumor and news source that spoke about everything OTHER THAN AN ACTUAL RELEASE DATE FOR THE MOVIE.

Now it's happening...and what?

That doesn't change much of anything given that: a) they still need to come up with a decent screenplay (the version they had prior to this was complete SHIT so I hope they go BACK to square one and do this right), b) they have no director at this point, c) y'all completely forget that Feige pushed this and Captain Marvel out of the MCU discussion multiple time and up until earlier this year claimed he didn't think it was possible Wakanda could be done on film (which it clearly can be), etc. now, all of a sudden we're not getting a BP movie when we should have had one ages ago?

But, that's perfectly fine.

But instead of acting like you achieved something by posting this, why don't you actually show up OPENING weekend when it officially comes out so BP can get multiple films well into the next Phase. Do that instead taking what I various other people in this post said YEARS AGO out of context.

In response to Reply # 0

Avengers 2 is released in 2015

and Captain America 3: Civil War is released in 2016

The Black Panther movie not released until November 2017. Since they are going with a totally new character are Marvel going to tease T'challa with a brief appearance in an earlier film to whet the appetite of film goers or for the uninformed explain a little of who he is before the movie gets released.

They've mentioned Dr Strange a few times already in passing in previous Marvel movies.

We have yet to see or hear a reference to Ant Man so perhaps Marvel will do similar with T'challa.

"RE: EXCLUSIVE: Tate Taylor set to direct Black Panther"

well played

im wondering who'll direct this next batch of flicks. (I'm bummed that Whedon is apparently not directing the last two Avengers movies.) and i'm very curious what directors they get to helm Black Panther & Captain Marvel & Inhumans....

a good director can take an 'ok' story and make VERY enjoyable and entertaining by his/her choices, while a not so good director can take a GOOD story and ruin it and make in UNenjoyable and forgettable...

on a related note, Feige was asked if he was looking for a Female Director for Captain Marvel & an African American Director for Black Panther & an Extraterestrial Director for the Inhumans....(ok i made that last one up)...and his response was exactly what i hoped he'd say...'we're looking for the best directors possible'

thats how i look at it...they should look for WHATEVER director can get to the 'essence & soul' of the characters/story at hand, and has the skill to tell that story on film in an engaging way...regardless of gender or color..."White, Black, Puerto Rican..."®Prince...it doesn't matter to me what race or sex the person is...just make the movie good and i'm all in!
i'd like to throw some director names into the discussion:
Rupert Wyatt (Directed Rise of the Planet of the Apes-awesomely satisfying), Matt Reeves (Cloverfield / Dawn of Apes-faves of mine), Peter Ramsey (Director who did another one of my favorite films of recent years the under appreciated "Rise Of The Guardians")...all of these directors were able to get the right blend 'heart & soul & character development' into their very entertaining 'actiony' films...there's just the right ratio of 'grounded in reality' for us to connect to, so that the 'fantastic' elements become more potent...its a tough mix/balance but i think thats KEY to the best of the Marvel flicks....

wholly crap its good to be alive now having grown up reading Marvel comics in the 70's & 80's....i DREAMT of a day when i'd see one or TWO if my favorite comic characters brought to life on the big (and small) screen in a compelling way...now we have pretty much an entire universe being built...and so far in VERY compelling ways for the most part...

I know you may not have created them ALL, but Mr. Stan Lee, as resident legend, you may step forward hold your hand out and 'drop the mic'...

well done Marvel...

So Now It's Rick Famuyiwa for Marvel’s 'Black Panther' and Ava DuVernay for 'Captain Marvel'?

By Sergio | Shadow and Act
May 13, 2015 at 7:26PM

Things happen fast in da' show biz.

So just after the news yesterday, reported by Tambay, that Ava DuVernay might be in talks to direct Marvel’s long awaited “Black Panther†movie, comes news that director Rick Famuyiwa is now possibly in contention to direct "Black Panther" instead, while DuVernay may now be a contender to direct “Captain Marvel,†scheduled for release in November 2018 instead.

The news, which comes via Rope of Silicon (HERE), adds that: "... insiders tell The Wrap that Marvel is keen to hire an African-American director for Black Panther and a female filmmaker for Captain Marvel. DuVernay checks both those boxes and would be a very interesting choice."

Famuyiwa is hot right now, thanks to the buzz around his latest film “Dope,†which was a smash hit at Sundance in January, leading to a bidding war among distributors, and is now scheduled to be released next month by Open Road.

But as Rope of Silicon also states: "... in the case of DuVernay, though it seems very hard to believe, would be accepting a gig where the higher ups will exact so much control over production."

Could be.

No doubt more developments about this will be coming out as time goes on.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/creed-director-ryan-coogler-tapped-to-lead-marvels-black-panther_568aa572e4b06fa68882e6b1

After numerous rumors surrounding the director of Marvel’s forthcoming flick “Black Panther†-- including Ava DuVernay forgoing the opportunity -- it appears the comic movie studio has finally made its decision.
In the February issue of Empire magazine, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige confirmed “Creed†and "Fruitvale Station" director Ryan Coogler as the film’s director -- which will feature a majority black cast and star Chadwick Boseman as T'Challa. For Feige, he said it is important for the film’s script to reflect the comic’s story of incorporating T’Challa’s origins in Wakanda.
"This one is important," Feige said. "Not only do you get an unbelievable lead character, but you also get all of Wakanda which is a whole new setting and culture to explore.â€
Feige went on to add that the action adventure will focus on the family and royal struggle of T’Challa as he discovers what it means to be king. The developing motion picture will mark the studio's first stand-alone black superhero movie.
Despite some questioning if it’s “important at all†to have a black director for the film, Coogler shared his thoughts last year during an interview with VIBE on the value of having people of color and minorities involved in making a film.
“I think when we have opportunities where you have people of color and minorities, filmmakers, producers, writers, directors making decisions on what stories to be made and actually going to work, then you prove that those works can have financial value,†he said. “That’s what moves the industry along.â€
“Black Panther†is set to hit theaters in 2018. The February 2016 issue of Empire magazine is now available on newsstands.

This is actually kind of dope when you think about it. When was the last time that you've had two black actors at the top of their game playing against each other in a major film.

I would dare to say never. That alone makes me really excited.

The only time that has really dared to happen was with visionary black directors trying to give some shine on screen to actors when they get the opportunity. I love that Coogler is bringing Michael B on board for this.

Unfortunately, as mentioned above, this will probably be a one off for him in the MCU.

But still, the fight/action scenes in this should be marvelous (pun intended).

Very cool news indeed.

...

my thoughts,

peace.

Obviously, Storm is an X-Man...but if she were identified as "Ororo", I wonder if that could fly. You say no, but Quicksilver has been shared by both X-Men and Avengers 2. I recall reading somewhere that Marvel got away with it by not identify Avengers Quicksilver as a "mutant" in the script. Maybe they could pull off something similar for Storm?

In response to Reply # 229

It wasn't that Marvel got away with it because they didn't call them mutants; they had shared rights to the characters. I doubt that Storm is in the same boat.

The fact that Fox holds onto the "Mutant" tag so hard (and basically nixed a Wolverine cameo in a Spiderman movie) makes me think that they aren't about to let Storm go either.

Sometimes they hold off on announcing people so they can keep the film in the news. He might have signed on right now, he might have just started filming now so they announced that he was in it.

there are plenty of big movies with rap songs on the trailers. when Kanye's power is on at least three trailers every year, it's not a "black movie = rap music" since all the movies are like that.

I felt the same way watching SpiderMan and Guardians 2. These movies arent really doing anything new and there are now so many Marvel movies its getting stale, in my opinion.

Just a lot of effects, stuff blowing up, great actors saying silly things

This looks like Ant Man in Africa to me.

the Marvel homogenization is real, but Thor is Guardians of the Galaxy 3.0 -- basically the same shit as well

In response to Reply # 278

The set design ?
The awesome clothing/costumes from OKPs very own Ikire Jones?
The cast that is more stacked than most Oscar bait flicks?

The only thing generic is the whole "The time has come to realize your destiny!" Origin movie stuff but that comes with the territory.

from the range of "this is what the continent could have been" storylines (obviously knowing not exactly Wakanda but just advancements), extractivism, colorism
