letters, but yes the ending is GOAT worthy...her slow creep into the living room, looking at all the fucked up artwork on her way in, the camera staying right behind her, her look of shock as the camera stays on her face when she sees the baby....Polanski directed the hell out of this movie.

Yes, it was. Horror doesn't have to have slashers and gross outs.

Just finding out several people were involved such as her OB is scarier than some other supposed/typical horror film bullshit.

Conceptually, I liked it.

Put in context, it was well made.

I didn't need buckets of blood or ripped off limbs.

But I didn't find it scary at all.

Points for being clever, but it's really low on the terrifying scale.

So many elements have been used for other movies that remaking it is almost pointless.

I mean, I don't think "Rosemary's Baby Ending" is an actual term, but I use it for movies that cop out with a similar ending. Like House of the Dead, or Paranormal Activity 3, or The Last Exorcism...

But honestly, I'm having a hard time with what a horror movie is right now ...

I'm stuck in this back and forth between the psychological aspect, where the unknown is more horrific than anything, and the bloodbath visual orgasm kind of superficial horror that is keenly terrifying in its own way.

Like saying Night of the Living Dead vs. Dawn of the Dead ...

But ... I dunno ... what do I know ...

it's just gross

I don't watch mindless slashers cuz they're mindless, not cuz they're remotely scary.

Exorcist scares the shit outta me and only ONE person dies in the whole movie, right?

A movie can do both, but a lot of gory films just kinda depend on splatter

but on a base level, seeing someone's mortal coil drop like that, even within the fiction of what's going on, is just sort of terrifying ...

I think the best is a good mix of both ... maybe some Event Horizon or the original Alien... Misery could even fit in here somewhere.

But some of my favorite "horror" movies are actually "thrillers" where the less revealed, the scarier the experience, like The Shining or Rosemary's Baby, as mentioned, or maybe even something like The Blair Witch Project before it was passé.

I mean, if I ever *really* saw some horrible Hellraiser-type violence in person, I'd be scarred for life, no doubt.

But on-screen? Filmmakers gotta know it isn't really effective on it's own anymore. Plus a lot of the great, great horror movies of all-time don't show any gore, at all.

The ones that manage to mix that sense of dread/fear with in-context gore, though? HARD to front on'em.

I think the Exorcist is the best horror film of all time.

I think the Texas Chainsaw Massacre is an incredibly violent and well done film, but isn't on the same level.

Rosemary is really well shot and really well written, but I don't think any movie captured audiences the way to the Exorcist does. I love the original Halloween, but it's not as good as the Exorcist. I think i've said it everyone who will listen that Nightmare on Elm St. is by far my favorite horror film and the Exorcist is still better.

Do you think this is somthing you'd like us to discuss on the podcast?
