"SNL - Season 37"

An all encompassing post? Big ups to the tasty choice Nasim Pedrad for getting the call up to repertory player.

Good show. Great start to the season. A lot of great bits, but the Top Gun auditions was by far the best sketch. Hilarious. But man... poor Jay Pharoah couldn't get any screen time this week. Shit, they couldn't even throw him in the Top Gun thing as Will or Denzel!? Some sad ass shit.

Also... Radiohead is officially dead to me.

That stupid news tape-delay sketch with Kristen Wiig out on location got me. It was so dumb, and I just kind of lost it watching it. I too liked the Top Gun one (I always really enjoy Hader's Alan Alda impression), but I loved that Kristen Wiig sketch. Also, really enjoyed Alec Baldwin's Tony Bennett on Weekend Update and Who's On Top?

Where a person is asked a serious of questions and the responder is one question behind or ahead in all of their responses but it somehow has humorous results?

For the life of me I can't remember where I saw the bit or the details of the sketch but this delayed bit reminded me of it.

Reminded me of some of the stuff in the late 80s, early 90s when the star power was fairly low (not to say some of them wouldn't become stars later) but they had some pretty funny well thought-out ideas behind the sketches.

agree

I almost couldn't believe the show was as good as it was. Still haven't seen all of it but the 60% I did see was great. I'll watch the rest on the dvr this week.

Pretty solid episode. The J-Pop TV show had me rolling, because I know a dude just like that who sings in a J-Pop band and has a Japanese girlfriend. It was so spot on, it was scary. Loved the Digital Short too. The Racist part, specifically, got a gut laugh out of me.

Drake's performances were... eh.... but I loved his stage design. Especially during "Headlines."

The Lifetime game show and all the girls signing sketches were both really good, and I liked the last one of the night with the calendar. But my favorite one was the Wyndemere sketch. Paul Brittain and Sudeikis killed that one. Sambgerg got some good reaction shots in early in it too. Also liked the J Pop American tv show sketch. I studied Japanese throughout middle and high school, and it certainly reminded me of a few classmates throughout the years. And Sudeikis was really good as the faculty supervisor in it. And the Drake and Jay Pharoah bit on Weekend Update should probably be on Drake's next album.

And in two weeks Charlie Day hosts, which is exciting.

Sir Charles' performance was cringe worthy. Execution of White People's Problem ruined a good idea.

I generally hate to see non-actors/comedians host. Though I remember the Jordan episode being great.

Is it me or is this the lowest wattage star power the casts has ever had? I just don't see any of these folks having the ability to branch out and have major film careers.

But yeah, outside of Hader and Armisen, I don't really see any future in features for this cast. That being said, Kenan does his thing on the show. There have been a few good sketches here and there this season, but yeah... it's pretty bad.

I will say though, the Martin Short episode was probably the best full episode in the past few years.

But I think that is a testament to how weak the cast is.

That one girl is hot.

Also, why is Armisen such a bit player these days? Portlandia?
