I enjoyed some of his earlier films, not because they were amazing or groundbreaking, but because they showed promise. He had a knack for good dialogue (actually, make that monologues) and his films looked like they were just as fun to make as they were to watch.
But....his last 3 or 4 films have been downright embarrassing to watch. He doesn't seem to be able to write characters who are relatable, and his dialogue seems way more forced. He wanted to break away from the Jay & Silent Bob world, but I think that's about the extent of his range.

He has enough fans of his movies not to be on this list. both hellboys were great for what they were. Pans Labyrinth was awesome. but out of ALL directors his name you pick? for real?

He has like three or four classics to his name.

I was about to write that he wasn't overrated but then noted that after his big breakout with Aliens and Predator, he didn't have another strong movie until 9 years later with Thelma and Louise and then had an 11 year break until Gladiator (which I'm not a huge fan of.) I know a lot of people ride for his later works but I haven't loved them.

Like Tarantino, the guy built his career on homages but at least Quentin took cribbed from films that not everybody had seen. I'd also argue that Scarface is one of the more overrated films out there.
