very, very serialized feel, which is a great thing. it was a well balanced adventure film IMO, moreso than a superhero movie. to me that perspective completely alters the quality of the movie, especially n relation to the others. some of what i've seen critics trash amounts to it not being iron man or thor when it is in fact a completely different movie as it SHOULD be.
and evans played the wholesome, good natured patriot to a hilt without entering "america, FUCK YEAH!" territory, which i appreciate. between tony, thor, bruce, and steve, steve is by far the easiest to root for. he was perfectly cast and perfectly played- as were the others, to be honest- but his character is by far the easiest to relate to, understand, cheer on, and he's easily the guy i would put my faith in to save the day above the other three; n other words, they fucing nailed it IMO.
tommy lee hams up another lovable curmudgeon; his character was a drag and a bore that wasn't really needed outside of the grenade scene, however his grumpy old man routine made it entertaining enough that i didn't dwell too much on the annoyance and uselessness of the character itself. because of steve's nature, i believed his anguish when the scientist bought the farm. that's partly because they didn't go overboard by gving him an unreasonably emotional response; in fact, they did it perfectly imo.
i LOVE the way they handled the relationship with peggy- in fact, all the relationships in the marvel universe films have been handled very well. i can't stand the old boy gets girl story, i like that they all have a measure of complexity to them and they are all more or less left hanging, and the CA relationship was nothing but a tease all movie, and i enjoyed that.
caps team was whatever, i'm not a neal mcdonough fan at all and having dum dum in there just felt a little wasted with what he had. who knows if he shows up as a sheild agent somehow.
SPOILER- someone earlier was harping on what happened with bucky, and while i agree it lacked the weight i'd hoped for, it was a faithful happening that i can live with. if they remain faithful and another CA gets made, we'll see the winter soldier at some point, and that's a good reason for them not to dwell on his death. IMO the gravity of WS showing up later would heightened if we cared a little more when he "died", but it wasn't handled so poorly that i'm ready to riot.
all in all a very enjoyable story that was well made. in fact i think this is my favorite story from these films. -Sig-
