I am amazed. This was incredible, as I don't find it credible someone could so poorly make a movie. In some ways, it's better than The Room.

....with running commentary from smart asses in the back and popcorn tossing. Watching it at home merely becomes a battle of your eardrums vs the awful sound mix.

"The Room" is more delightfully awful, if you ever happen across it.

The sound editing, the shot selection, and the dialogue is WORSE in Birdemic, making it way more laugh-out-loud funny. The Room is also great, but I think The Room plays better at midnight showings with participation than at home.

I watched Birdemic by myself last night and was rolling in my proverbial aisles.

Especially if it's your first time.

I go back on forth on the Birdemic vs Room debate, usually depending on what I've watched more recently. The Room is much more competently made (and less funny in that regard,) but Birdemic has a more cohesive story (and less funny in that regard).

Birdemic has a MUCH easier to look at love interest, but as wooden as he is, Rod's delivery can't match Tommy Wiseau's for sheer comedy.

Both have such a sledgehammer of a message, they kind of cancel each other out. But at least Birdemic's is positive instead of "women are evil."

I think this is best left to scholars 100 years from now.

It's like two separate films. The first 45 minutes is the most stilted and poorly written love story ever, complete with business talk that sounds like someone who has never been a part of business wrote and a relationship that sounds like someone who has never been a part of a relationship wrote.

Then, ALL OF A SUDDEN, with basically zero buildup, birds are bombing the city, the love story is totally thrown out the window, and we have action.

Then, kids are introduced, and there's a bit of we-need-to-care-for-the-kids-melodrama.

Also, they meet a man who lives in the woods who has to leave when a mountain lion starts approaching off-camera.

Additionally, a scientist allegedly doing tests on birds in the middle of fucking nowhere who provides all of the reasons why the birds appeared.

Finally, the birds disappear with zero cause.

Say what you will about The Room, but it follows traditional story structure. Introduce the conflict in the first 10-15 minutes, escalation of conflict, resolution at the end. There are little side diversions there too (the shit with the kid on drugs that makes no fucking sense, the tuxedo basketball), but the very very basic plotline follows the way a story is told on film.

Birdemic... is the most hilariously incompetent thing I've ever seen. The Room at least feels like a movie.

I WILL FIGHT YOU ON THIS. #TEAMBIRDEMIC

Dog, there's BUILDUP, or did you not notice the subtle news reports about global warming threatening the world, and thus Rod and Natalie's burgeoning romance.

I think, and this is just me, that he was there to inform the characters about the real dangerous animal, human beings.

I hope we find out why in the sequel.

Does it? We're given no reason for why Lisa is lying about/cheating on Johnny, no reason for the two people to show up and start doing it in the apartment, an introduction of a character getting cancer and never having it followed up with. Maybe cohesive storyline was the wrong phrase, but most of the things introduced in Demic aren't just arbitrarily dropped. Rod gets that Silicon Valley Dream money and forms his own solar power company.

And it's tuxedo football, Birdemic has the basketball scene.

The Room looks like a movie, but feels like a weird couch syrup experience.

Pretty sure both of those shots of him watching TV were the same shot recycled too, lol. Classic.

>I think, and this is just me, that he was there to inform the

And our characters never talk about or learn anything from him or the scientist.

>I hope we find out why in the sequel.

I HOPE WE DON'T.

>Does it? We're given no reason for why Lisa is lying

The magic is gone. There've been looser explanations in films.

no reason for the two people to show
>up and start doing it in the apartment

This one is a mystery.

an introduction of a
>character getting cancer and never having it followed up with.

This line <<< "That's a mountain lion, I gotta go."

>Maybe cohesive storyline was the wrong phrase, but most of the
>things introduced in Demic aren't just arbitrarily dropped.
>Rod gets that Silicon Valley Dream money and forms his own
>solar power company.

Which is NEVER BROUGHT UP AGAIN. There's no reasoning behind it! Birdemic gets crazy ambitious and thematic for absolutely no reason at all, and then never ties those messages in with the characters, so the characters never learn or grow. The Room has far more humble and attainable ambitions.

>And it's tuxedo football, Birdemic has the basketball scene.

I apologize. Basketball has been on my mind since watching it last night.

I REALLY want to get high and watch Birdemic. I felt high watching it. Like, I could write a 300-page book analyzing Birdemic frame by frame.

1. How is the magic gone from Johnny and Lisa's relationship? They just made passionate love with roses the night before, AND he bought her a sexy dress. I guess it does make some sense, because she is a woman and women are always ruining everyone's life.

2. When the mountain lion showed up, he went back up to his tree house. It has presumably kept him safe from mountain lions this whole time.

I agree with you on Birdemic's greatness, but I tihnk you're selling The Room short. Although I may be saying this because I met Tommy Wiseau once and he autographed my football and gave me a fistbump.

Also, The Room has a great soundtrack with at least two or three classic jams, whereas Birdemic just had one classic jam ("Hangin Out With My Family").

I really want to spend the rest of my workday making a list and deciding (for myself) which one I ultimately think is better.

...being amongst my own kind (namely people nerdy enough to have seen both films and discuss them in depth) makes me extremely happy.

I personally enjoy the room a bit more, as it has just enough structure that the WTF moments (the framed forks, whatever weird thing her neck was doing, the god damned football) can stand on their own.

Birdemic is such a hot mess, it becomes less funny, as you're too busy pondering the question of what in hell is going on after a while.

I am a fan of both though.

Jamie: What movie, in recent years, do you think could hold a candle to Manos’ badness?

Mike: It’s really funny. This may seem self-serving, I swear it’s not, I swear I’m telling the truth. We’re doing a live showing of Birdemic coming up in October, I don’t know if you’ve seen this, but it… it just makes me smile. Manos I find kind of creepy, but Birdemic is bad on that level that...you know, every single choice this guy made was the wrong one. Like every frame of the movie was a wrong choice, every actor was wrong, and yet, it’s a sublime experience. The unintentional humor is there throughout, it doesn’t really drag in terms of that. That’s the one that is currently my favorite.

Does anyone here recommend the mp3? --

....so...i had heard about this movie a few years back, but never took the time to track it down to watch....

that is, until the 'RiffTrax' crew (some of the guys who used to do "Mystery Science Theater 3000") decided to 'give it the treatment' and do a live Fathom event showing across several US theaters this past Thursday....

http://www.fathomevents.com/originals/event/birdemic.aspx

http://www.rifftrax.com/

i snapped up tickets in advance and drug my wife and daughter there with me....(my wife was crackin' wise, all like: 'why are you getting tickets in advance? you KNOW we're gonna be the ONLY ones there!'

...to her surprise and my joy, the theater was almost completely full by the time the show started!

...and boy it was a blast! afterwards my daughter complained her stomach was hurting ...not because of bad popcorn, but because she was laughing SO hard and the movie was SO bad it hurt.

This is definitely the way to see this movie...with the RiffTrax/MST3K dudes just going AT it! they made even the SUPREMELY INANELY bad slow parts of this move great fun.
and trust me....this move was baaad. i mean this movie was so AMAZINGLY & ASTONISHINGLY bad that it essentially puts its own head up its own arse and somehow 'wormholes' itself into another dimension and manages to become AWESOME...i dont know how else to explain it...

we had such a good time and i gotta say on personal note, it was really really great to be 'hangin' out wit my family' and enjoying the experience together....

...im really hoping the Rifftrax crew puts out a DVD version of this live viewing...twas a blast!...
