So this post is rather O_Eish of me. I feel like I should intro by talking about what I'm eating for dinner or something. Anyhow.
2010 has proven that, even in the absence of a Will Smith blockbuster film, the Smith Family owns America.
This summer, we saw multiple big movie stars have their films flop. The safest bet in the world when it comes to movie stars? A Will Smith film won't flop. I don't care if he makes a sequel to Seven Pounds-- Eight Pounds. I don't care if he does Bagger Vance With A Vengeance. Folks will go see it.
Jada Pinkett Smith? HawthoRNe, although I'm not a fan, actually built its fanbase on TNT for its second season, and it was instantly renewed for a third.
Jaden Smith? Starred in one of the biggest surprise hits and one of the best films of the year, the remake of the Karate Kid. It was so good that folks were hating on his Letterman appearance. Dude is TWELVE, and his haters outnumber the number of people I will meet in my life. If that's not power, I don't know what is. And now, as if the declaration of Jaden as a movie star wasn't a loud enough statement of dominance by the Smith Family, we have Willow Smith, whose song "Whip My Hair" might be one of the hottest singles I've heard all year. Watch that music video and tell me that song won't be a hit.
Even Jay Pharaoh, who did the best Will Smith impression on Youtube, got a job on Saturday Night Live largely because he was so damn good at doing Will Smith! What was his first appearance on SNL? His Will Smith impression.
Of course this post should come as a revelation to absolutely no one. But I for one find it unreal that we get these constant reminders that Will Smith is the #1 movie star... in a year when he DIDN'T EVEN MAKE A FUCKING MOVIE. When in memory was there ever a reign this dominant in the entertainment industry by a single family?
I guarantee Shiloh doesn't have a hit single. Just saying.

good to hear that they picked up the show. The people on my usual hipster review sites hate the show, but white people get shitty shows that never get canceled all the time, and this one isn't shitty...just formulaic.

M. Night Shyamalan is in town this week, working on putting together his next directorial effort which will see him working with Will Smith. But it won’t be the secret untitled project he shopped around in June. That script, which came with Bruce Willis, Bradley Cooper and Gwyneth Paltrow loosely attached, never found a buyer and was quietly shelved.
That’s not to say Shyamalan has lost his love for secrecy -- sources are saying Shyamalan is developing an ultra clandestine sci-fi project titled One Thousand A. E., being developed at Overbrook, the production company Smith runs with James Lassiter, Ken Stovitz and Jada Pinkett Smith. And unlike most of Shyamalan’s oeuvre, to which his most recent film The Last Airbender is an exception, A.E. is not written by Shyamalan.
That honor goes to Gary Whitta, who wrote The Book of Eli and Undying, his in-development Kurt Russell project.
Plot details are under lock and key although it is known that A.E. is being developed as a vehicle for Jaden Smith. There is a starring role for an adult male, although sources said Will Smith is not taking it on.
A.E. has no studio home yet although Overbrook has a first-look deal with Sony, which will likely be its home.

damn, i thought he was nice...i wonder if he's good with being the normal kid of the family...i mean its not like he's under achieving but in that family it may feel that way.

to say about Jaden. Some act like they literally HATE this kid. Don't you just love how "arrogant" is thrown about so freely.
I think Jaden will eventually grow into being a bit more humble. But I think a lot of it is just for show. I mean, damn ... his pops is one of the most recognizable people on the planet. He clearly looks up to his dad. While everyone seems to think its EASY being Will Smith's son (obviously there are some perks), I'm sure pops is quite hard on the guy. So he just needs to find balance. He is just a kid afterall. Its going to take some time.
In his latest keep-it-in-the-family move, Will Smith is exploring with Sony the potential for a remake of the musical "Annie," with daughter Willow as the star, sources say.
Smith, who developed "The Karate Kid" starring his son Jaden, would produce through his Overbrook shingle.
While details about the "Annie" retooling are still in development stages, rapper Jay-Z, who worked with Willow on her pop hit "Whip My Hair," is in talks to collaborate on the music.
Project reps were tight-lipped about whether the pic would be a contemporary version and whether it will include any original songs.

Bigger problem is that she's not really in a very cute phase for a little girl and I'm not sure if she has any talent
Jaden looks exactly like his dad and basically just mimics him, which is why he's done so well
The girl can't really do that, she has to develop a swag of her own because her mom's steez is too grown and introspective (Jada was like that when she was a damn teenager too)
