"They Live: great movie, or greatest movie?"
They don't make movies like this anymore. When did Hollywood forget about fistfights? Now it's all either CGI blasting or some sort of kung-fu insanity.
It's not like They Live is rocket science. It's high concept with silly alien masks and lots of hammy one-liners. But it has a macho hero, guns blasting, and fist fighting. And the alley fight... cmon. Perfection.
All I can think while re-watching this movie today is how many movies I've seen in the past several years with just straight-up, knock-down drag-out fist fighting.

men are so simple, and so subject to present necessities, that he who seeks to deceive will always find someone who will allow himself to be deceived. (c)Niccolò Machiavelli
BTW, I saw Keith David in South Beach a couple of weeks back riding a bike and sweating like a pig! ____________________________________ Twitter: nipsey A Friend's Blog: http://trayrific.wordpress.com/ My Yelp Reviews: http://nipsey.yelp.com

I loved that movie as a kid. And to me, it still holds up today. Plus it was kind of a downer at the end. I liked that. Movies have too many happy endings. ____________________________________ Twitter: nipsey A Friend's Blog: http://trayrific.wordpress.com/ My Yelp Reviews: http://nipsey.yelp.com
The reagonomics, campy makeup and masks, WWF wrestling scene, the whole package. Looking back it reminds me of George Romero. It's been years since I've seen it though.

With that being said, NO RE-MAKES. Please. Roddy Piper was not an actor. And that was part of the appeal. Keith David was an unkhown at that time. Plus, yall know that a re-make would only mean wild CGI. I was only 9 when it hit theatres, but man.... that was a movie. John Carpenter was the man.
