I'm guessing and hoping it's just the packaging that is different. I can't imagine the DVDs being re-worked to a great extent since the show has been gone for so long now.

Thanks for the heads up with the original post. I was originally planning to cop the first season or five at a discount when Tower Records here in NYC folded up, but I got too busy/lazy and got the to TR locations when they were pretty much raided for anything of quality, so this is a great deal.

And to answer the poster's questions from below; the last page when I placed the order said the credit card will be charged when the item ships.

the deep discount product description isn't very descriptive and doesn't even really promise that it will play on Region 1 dvd players.

But it's a good enough deal for me to risk it. *crosses fingers*

Homicide was re-relased on October 20th in a "slim" package that has a suggested retail price $145 that goes for $99 at Amazon.

This is 40% off that price.

They blow out these TV series when they don't sale.

I've seen the $250 dollar Star Trek TNG Complete on eBay going for $82.00.

You can get The Wire Complete for about $67 on eBay, new. (Actually I jsut bought one, and I'll get $5.40 cash back from Bing.com in 60 days.)

It's a good time to get sets that may not have sold well initially.

The set goes on sale from time to time, and I missed it last year when it was on sale. There are 2 different sets. I believe the difference is one is ordered the way they were broadcast on NBC, and the other the way they they were originally intended to be shown. One of them may even have the final Homicide movie they did when G was shot and died.

This is one of my favorite shows ever. Does anyone think it's possible they might be making way for a wide screen release (I didn't buy it in the past because of the price)? I've slowed down on my TV DVD buying since I got my HDTV and have been wondering if any of these past DVD releases will be available in wide screen some day?

I've already spent hundreds on rebuying DVDs (and CDs for that matter) that I don't want to buy it if there's a chance a wide screen version will come out. Very disappointed with some of my past seasons of X-Files and American Gothic on 1:33 on my new TV. Not only are they full screen, but the quality isn't there either.

It was shot at 1.33:1.

I know they've been showing it on HDTV but It's unclear if it from the 1.67 space the Super 16 element or if they are doing a pan and scan , or worse a zoom, of it.

Who knows - Law and Order was shot to a 1.67 and was safe at 1.33.

And Seinfeld and Hogan's Heroes got "widescreen" HDTV transfers too.

I'd say if they release a Bluray of Seinfeld in widescreen then Homicide will be about 4 years after that.

But I just noticed that within the first three seasons, they had characters named Layne Staley (Alice In Chains), Krist Novocelic (Nirvana) and Matt Cameron (Soundgarden).

One of the writers loved him some Seattle rock.
