so i've been listening to nothing but comedy albums/boxsets lately and i need some recommendations. i've listened to the richard pryor boxset, george carlin box, and the lenny bruce box. i think my favorite comedy album of all time, though, is Rant in E Minor(my avy) by Bill Hicks. what is your favorite comedy album? and please don't recommend dane cook or other hacks like him.
all from this decade. i just don't have enough older stuff/can't get into it. a lot of it doesn't translate to today for me.
Patton Oswalt- Werewolves and lollipops (his other album is great too, but Werewolves is far and away my favorite album)
Dave Attell- Skanks for the memories
David Cross- both of his albums
Greg Giraldo- Good Day to Cross a River
If we're talking DVDs, I always suggest Zach Galifianakis' Live at the Purple Onion and Louis C.K.'s Chewed Up (which was shot like Pryor's Live in Concert and Bill Cosby Himself in that there isn't audience reaction shots to make you think it's funnier than it is. It's just the performance).
You can't go wrong with any of Richard Pryor's stuff, but the elite material is on: That Nigger's Crazy Bicentennial Nigger Craps Black Ben the Blacksmith (if you can find it)
Cosby's best stuff is on: Why is there air? To My Brother Russell Wonderfulness Revenge
Timeless material
Sounds like you're good to go with the Carlin stuff.

great stuff, just saw him recently and even though a lot of it was from his albums, i was still dying.
I also forgot to mention Demetri Martin, and someone else mentioned Stanhope.
I was kinda disappointed by Louis C.K.'s album only because his stuff in the 90's doesn't seem to have the same focus that his stuff today does. It's great material, it's just all over the place when I don't think that style really ever fit him. He's one of the few comedians who actually got BETTER when they started talking about their family life. But that album is also interesting to see the stuff Dane Cook probably stole.

Its stuff he was working on right before he croaked it in early '05.
Richard Pryor - Live in Concert (the one with "the clock motherfucker, what the clock say!!?" - which is the funniest line ever delivered by human on this or any other planet) Dave Attell - Skanks For The Memories (a master at the top of his game)
Also some of my favoritest audio comedy thingies are audio versions of filmed specials. Among them:
David Spade - Take The Hit (atually funnier in audio, IMO) Dennis Miller - Black & White David Cross - The Pride Is Back David Cross - HBO 1/2 Hour Comedy Hour
I also like some of the sketchy comedy stuff, especially the Brits:
League of Gentlemen - On The Town w/ The Leagur of Gentlemen (6 hour series that became the BBC1 Series "Welcome to Royston Vasey") (Polarbear Toenails didn't like it, but what does he know about comedy, huh?!? Am I right??!!) Almost Monty Python
bubble gum tick tock hound dog fleas cock-a-doodle-doodle and some hog head cheese leap out the room, grab the old broom eat a watermelon and walk on the moon cherry coke, canteloupe, little old maid a big black berry inside the kool-aid a bass guitar
Rap Replinger-Poi Dog Rap Replinger-Crab Dreams Cheech & Chong-Los Cochinos Cheech & Chong's Wedding Album Richard Pryor-After Hours Richard Pryor-Is It Something I Said? Richard Pryor-That Nigger's Crazy Richard Pryor-Bicentennial Nigger Redd Foxx-Dirty Foxx Redd Fox-You Gotta Wash Your Ass Dennis Miller-The Off White Album Bob Goldthwait-Meat Bob Andrew "Dice" Clay-The Day The Laughter Died
Also look for the Stan Freberg box set on Capitol, HIGHLY recommended by me.
