"Another set of film lists to chew on: AFI's 10 Top 10"

(a series that I totally forgot to vote on)

So, this is where the AFI peoples rank the 10 best films in 10 different genres: Animation, Romantic Comedy, Western, Sports, Mystery, Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Gangster, Courtroom Drama, and Epic

I'm going to list each list as its own post, so that people can feel free to shit on each category individually. Kidding!

So with that, here we go:

I don't have problems with that list. I would have liked to have seen an addition of Iron Giant or The Incredibles (Brad Bird needs to be somewhere on that list). I'm not sure about Snow White at #1. I'm not even sure if it'd be in my top 10. I realize it's importance but it's just not one of my favorites.

And I was thinking about adding Aladdin too but I think I'd rather see Iron Giant and The Incredibles.

I'm still salty over the bullshit treatment that Ratatouille continues to get. Yes it's a rat in a kitchen movie, but it's a great rat in a kitchen movie.

And Iron Giant is great too, but its status as an unfortunately relatively unknown "cult film" keeps me from putting it in a Top 10 list. Be that as it may, I might swap it for "Incredibles" on any given day. It all depends.

I'm somewhat surprised that Field of Dreams was left off, although I'm not overly familiar with the last 3. I'm saddened by the lack of football, but I can't even think of one that really deserves a mention.

Maybe Friday Night Lights?

The Longest Yard?

Brian's Song?

I dunno.

but I'm not entirely sure what I'd remove from the list. And I'd definitely consider switching Empire for New Hope.

I should really see the original Invasion of the Bodysnatchers. I've seen the 70s remake and the one from last year. I wonder if 'zombie' movies are considered Sci-Fi.... if so, switch Night of the Living Dead or Dawn of the Dead for Invasion?

i personally consider star wars to fit in the fantasy category since most of its premises don't have any kind of bearing on technology or physics (real or imagined). i'm a bit surprised none of the star trek movies got a nod, but not terribly so.
