But really that's the general opinion of that movie.

It's gotten a LOT of negative reviews.

It really stinks cause I think in a big way the movie was riding off of the sucess of Simon Pegg's stuff with Nick Frost. You know, like "If You liked Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead..."

But mostly people just said it was a very generic, lame romantic comedy.

Personally I'd much rather see Meet The Browns. And that says a lot.

Pegg isn't going to get as much hate because the hate stems from success. If Hot Fuzz had opened at #1 or #2 and made 40+ million, I'm sure you'd hear a lot more people hating on it. If Run Fatboy Run was #1 or #2 more people would hate on it.

If Perry's films made moderate amounts of money, most people would ignore them and I'm sure some people would even be saying "Well, they aren't my cup of tea but it's good to see someone making positive African-American films out there."

I'd say wait a week until Leatherheads but I bet that bombs as well and, as a director, Clooney isn't touching Perry's box office success either.

And honestly, the apathy (Superhero movie bombing and no post) is harsher than the hate IMO.

His shit just ain't appealing to me. His tv show, his plays, his movies. All of that. From what I've seen is pretty wack to me. I don't like hokie corny ensemble dramas with unfunny comedy thrown in there, whether black or white. I don't care if Jill Scott, Malik Yoba, Tony Terry, Janet Jackson, the nigga that played Spawn, Jim Brown, Redhead Kingpin, or Stoney Jackson are in it. I can look at his commercials and see, that's some "Hav Plenty" shit. I"ll pass.

I also didn't think Run Fat Boy Run was bad. I dl'ed that shit, and thought it was aight. Simon Pegg has a good track record with me.

I include this link to an article in Sunday's LA Times, not as definitive proof of my side of the argument, but to say that it's not just latte sippers on some random website saying that TP's success is making things difficult for other black filmmakers. Just take comfort in the fact that outside of PTP this argement will NEVER come up.

But here, there's a few posters that are seemingly such huge Tyler Perry fans that they think that anyone that isn't a Tyler Perry fan must be either pretentious or racist or ____. Apparently these same anti-TP folks fall to their knees and shake their fists at the Heavens whenever one of Tyler Perry's movies has a better opening-weekend sales than some other romantic comedy with a white cast.

My advice is, don't try. If you don't like Tyler Perry and really try to defend your opinion, chances are someone's going to come back saying that you're against black unity or something. Or that you're addicted to putting milk in your coffee.

it was generic and predictable, but it still had some good laughs.

and i dunno how you think simon pegg is all the sudden at the bottom of the comedic actor ladder... shaun of the dead was funny, but got a little silly towards the end. but Hot Fuzz was one of the best and funniest movies i've seen in long, long time.
