"How I Met Your Mother"
This is the best laugh track sitcom since Everybody Loves Raymond. Easily. EASILY.
I bought Season 1, and just went through it in 2 days. I have died laughing at every episode. The writing is smart, the pacing is flawless, the catchphrases and running gags build beautifully, and all 5 performers are simply A-game.
I can't wait to rip into Season 2. Late pass me, guys. But I'm on board and I'm here to stay.

I've been told that this pilot that I've been writing in bits and pieces resembles this show a little bit ________________________________________________________________________ Magnificent Trident

cuz multi-camera sitcoms haven't really used laugh tracks in a long time. they are recorded in front of a live studio audience. sorry it just irks me to hear that term. i used to work on one and people would say "laugh track" and i would bang my head against the wall. lol i sometimes wish they DID use laughtracks, cuz then maybe i wouldn't be sitting on stage from 7 pm till 1 am on a Tues. night, shooting a 23 minute show.

They're called "sweetening" now
Even if they're filmed in front of a live studio audience, once in the editing room the show runner might note that a certain joke didn't get a big enough laugh in front of said audience, so extra laughs will be added ________________________________________________________________________ Magnificent Trident

They aren't reinventing the wheel or doing anything particularly edgy, but the writing is sharp, the acting is good and there's a sense of craft to the whole production. My favorite show on TV.

in an American sitcom since God knows when. The only competition would be MAYBE Wanda Sykes on Curb Your Enthusiasm, and even then, she's not in nearly every episode. I think you'd have to go back to Bill MacNeill or George Costanza to find someone of this caliber.

Leon from the latest season is up there in my favorite characters going right now. I still put Barney at top but if Leon is back in the next season of Curb then he might become my fav.

...it is far and away the most consistently hilarious show on TV...i think some write it off b/c it's a "traditional, multi-camera, laugh-track sitcom" but if you put those things aside, it's the best sitcom out there
i love 'the office' and '30 rock' but 'HIMYM' rarely has a mis-step whereas the other two do all the time
i wish i could buy you for what you're worth and sell you for what you think you're worth

I wish I could keep my season 3 post going but i've been busy at work. This season has had some great episodes:
-The one with the girlfriend who was hot and crazy -the one with that new area of brooklyn -the one when ted had the girlfriend that talked too much -the one where the friends explain why you should date someone you see regularly.
and I definitely prefer this show to the office. To me, its the best comedy on television.

Namely for his work on Okay Awesome, Mary the Paralegal, and Arrivederci, Fiero. The latter episode also features great DVD commentary between Harris and Jason Segel.

especially the last handful of episodes.
Season 3 hasn't been nearly as strong as the first two. There have been a couple of decent eps here and there and Ted really seems to be coming into his own, but it's not laugh out loud funny like it used to be. Maybe when the writer's strike is resolved, we'll get some more quality episodes.

My favorite part of season 2 was when they had Ted an Robin spill pasta sauce on themselves and they don't explain until 5 episodes later during the two-part season finale.

It was an absolutely brilliant way to re-invent the tried and true sitcom format. It seemed like they were going to do something similar with the yellow umbrella from the first episode of this season, but so far nothing. I appreciate a show where you're rewarded for being a loyal viewer.
