"Poor Things (Yorgos Lanthimos, 2023)"

Yorgos you beautiful bastard!!!

This shit is W-I-L-D. Basically the Bride of Frankenstein destroys terrible men. This movie has layers that I'm still digging through.

Cannot wait to see this shit again. Handa down one of the best movies of the year.

The trailer gives away nothing. See it in Dolby Cinema if you can.

Between this and The Curse, Stone continues to prove she is one of the best actor's working.

A beautiful, hilarious film. Might be my favourite Lathimos film which could be recency bias but whatever the case the film is wonderful.

I very much recommend Thomas Flight's "Why Do Yorgos Lathimos' movies Feel So Weird" https://youtu.be/2pPGeVkBYrU?si=SY96nwPrnLccTTKj

It's three years old so Poor Things isn't discussed but it does contains spoilers for some of his earlier films. Very much worth a watch.

My only real, and thankfully minor, gripe is Jerrod Carmichael who is just distractingly bad whenever he is on-screen.

Quite the bold role for Emma Stone to say the least. The only part of the movie I didn't like because it felt rushed was the visit to Alexandria that led to Emma Stone's character losing her innocence.

Spoiler warning I suppose for folks that don't want to know too much of the movie beforehand, but it was also cool of Mark Ruffalo to be willing to play such a creep given how famous he's been from the Marvel flicks as portraying a hero.

The film's used of what I think was Fish Eyed Lenses was interesting as well since I don't remember seeing that too often in major movies.

not just the usual smirk-because-that's-clever, but actually made me laugh out loud

Ruffalo is over the top glorious

Lanthimos is the rare director that creates dreams within his films, surreal and believable at the same time
