Damn, can this dark cloud please float over the head of someone else for a change?

Good Deeds chronicles an extremely rough patch in Lindsey Wakefield's(Thandie Newton) life. She is in dire fincial straits and when it rains it pours. She meets the rigid, over-structured wealthy owner, Walter Deeds(Tyler Perry) of the company she works for, and through transparency and revelation, their encounters changes both of their lives forever.

Tyler Perry brought forth a very good heartfelt drama. There are challenges, self-confronting, acceptance, & good old fashioned love. The cast was good, and the performances were solid. There really weren't any religious or spiritual undertones. The movie progressed welI and it was nicely shot. Don't have a full complete review yet, but I enjoyed this movie and i certainly recommend it.

is critic-proof.
If you added up all the % ratings he's gotten for all his films on Rotten Tomatoes, he'd STIIIILLLL be way below 100%.

anyway, I'm more of a "let a nigga live" kinda dude.
He employs a lotta Black actors that wouldn't be working otherwise.

union busting scandal let his TV writers join the Writer's Guild.

He's no benevolent savior of black entertainment workers. Even most of the actors can't use Tyler Perry movies on their reels.

Now, that... I did not know.
Real shitty business. I heard about the writers being on strike.
Honestly, that show is so horrible, I thought TP actually wrote all of it himself.
Well,..... atleast those actors can put his film on their IMDB page. lol

TP films on their reels, just that it's not practical because your work in a TP film is not likely to impress a casting agent. Unless it's Tyler Perry's.

It's the equivalent of putting that you worked at Wal-Mart inbetween jobs at Neiman Marcus and Bloomingdale's.

Why do you think that?

Why do you belittle their work because it's a Tyler Perry film?

Only three people who have ever appeared in a Tyler Perry film can really put scenes from their work on their reels:

Taraji P. Henson (I Can Do Bad...)
Michael Ealy and Anika Noni Rose (For Colored Girls)

Nevermind that Taraji has done enough better work in better pictures to where she need not include "I Can Do Bad" on her reel.

White propaganda shown in a THOUSAND more screens.

Amazing how some people think a movie with a mostly black cast, shouldn't even be played in areas that's mostly white. Movies with mostly white casts, are played everywhere. Then they're compared for total box office receipts. Wrong.

Good Deeds has a universal story which can be felt by all people. People don't even have the choice to see it in some areas. It's ironic because where i saw it, there were a good number of white people in the theater. But in some white areas, they didn't even have the option. That's a shame.

... but Act of Valor made more money per screen than Good Deeds also.

And I think Good Deeds looks waaaaaaaaay better than Act of Valor. But white people love the "Navy SEAL" angle.

Frank,
You're more than welcome to comment man.

I'm just speaking in general. I know Act of Valor did a little better per theater, but when there is a spirit of not even carrying the movie, there will be some theaters who will also relegate it to the smaller theater with the least amount of seats. I actually experienced that at the theater i saw it in. It was easily one of there more smaller theaters, but it was pretty snug. Good Deeds per theater number was damn good.

It's been consistently at 2100 screens and seems to do well. They should give it a chance on a few more screens to see if it can bring in some more money but I'm sure they way they see it is that he'll bring in a consistent amount and they'll take the safe money and not spend more on prints and marketing in those areas.

His non-Madea films don't do as well so I'm not surprised that this one didn't get a bigger release.

I just hope to one day we get to the point where movies won't be so marginalized by race. But, it's only that movies with mostly black actors are handled this way. Movies with white casts are never suppressed or compartmentalized. They're just "movies". Movies with casts of other ethnicities should be given the same treatment. A story is a story. The ethnicity of the actors/actresses shouldn't dictate who has access to see it.
