If you like the 2004 version, you'll more than likely enjoy this.
I thubk the story is better told this time around and the new jokes hit harder but this thung is basically trying to hit the same moments and lines you liked the first time around. Except with musical numbers.

It's wild that a number of these are being produced yet not at all marketed as a musical. I understand WHY, but if musicals are mostly box office poison....why are we making them again? Especially if it's a remake?
Like, there's a good amount of dancing and theatrical fantasy shots in there, not to mention the musical number in the Mean Girls logo. I know they're not showing the characters singing... I don't know. Maybe I'm just watching closer than other people, lol.
Also, re: this strategy: hey, Wonka is a big-ass hit, and I think Mean Girls is gonna open to 35+ mil in January, so... whatever it is, it's working! lol

The direction is stylish, the new jokes and adjustments work nicely, and some of the cast is really, really good. I don't love the show, but I thought this was a good time.
And my crowd was packed at noon on a Friday. And there was a BIG applause break for a certain cameo from someone in the original. So I think it's gonna be a pretty big hit.
