Listened to a lot of De La yesterday during a heavily-delayed flight back to Boston from Chicago. And damn, this song still goes like it's brand new. It's always been among my favorite tracks on AOI:MT (despite the glaring lack of Dave on the track) and has aged very well. That gospel breakdown at the end is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo damn good. Chill inducing shit.
yeah i wish dave was on it, too, but i guess it was pos's itzoweeze moment. dave killed it on trying people, aka goat grown man rap pt.2. that "they were looking for god but found religion instead" line by pos got quoted by me plenty of times.
''i went from bashful to asshole to international''- CdoubleO

I tend to blend those 2 albums haha. Wish we got part 3.
Anyway yea you're right - Dave had his shine elsewhere and they've both had plenty of solo moments on their albums so it's not a *huge* deal. Just wish they both got to spit on what is one of my all time fav De La tracks.

That whole situation has made me so sad so many times. Totally fucked up that (a) so many young people have been deprived of easily accessing the discog of one of the most important hip-hop acts of the golden era, and (b) more importantly, DLS has been absolutely fucked out of well-deserved income streams due to greedy ass fucking white-helmed labels.
Love this song. It also makes me think of how much I love Cunninlynguists' Caved In with Cee -lo. Similar vibe to the two songs.
there comes a time in every mans life when he's gotta handle shit up on his own Can't depend on friends to help you in a squeeze, please they got problems of their own---slim kid3

I got started on Cunninglinguists' discog years back and got about halfway through. Don't think I heard this one and if I did I don't remember it, so I'll have to go back.

I never really understood the derision. It's definitely not their best but I don't think it's their worst either. In fact I don't really think they have a worst. Because all their albums are either absolutely fucking perfect, or at worst really really really good haha.
Funnily enough (I've talked about this on here before), for a long time I never understood the hype about "Trying People". I think I was initially tepid because I felt like they built it up too much throughout the album (all those post-song interludes or whatever) so when I finally heard it I was kind of inevitably let down by it. I loved the subject matter but was so mehhh about the production that I just never cared for it like everyone else seemed to.
But I eventually fell in love with it, obviously.
Baby Phat was a tremendous single , No doubt about that. They really nailed the first singles for both AOIs. Also agree that there are a couple clunkers but that overall Bionix is really great. I have a lot of nostalgia tied to it as well; it came out my senior year in high school so I have a lot of great memories of cruising around in my emerald green 1994 Camry with this album on repeat, smoking Ls with the crew as we all prepared to go our separate ways. What a great year that was.
*snaps out of daydream* haha anyway - re: AOI: Mosaic Thump & Bionix, I always considered MT a summer album, while Bionix was a winter album. Which is kinda dope cause every year I revisit each of them as the seasons change.
>I probably hold that album in higher regard than a lot of >people, but other than a couple skippers it’s great IMO. > >Held Down was always my second favorite after Trying People. > >Am I Worth You? was also another favorite, and What We Do For >Love with Slick Rick. I thought Baby Phat was a good single >too. > >Might have to revisit that album!
