"the new billy woods album (prod by kenny segal) is the hardest shit i've..."
ever heard. excuse the hyperbole, but this album is incredible. woods just keeps getting better with age, and why have I not heard of Kenny Segal before? this whole thing sounds haunting as fuck

Been a huge Woods fan for a while now. I never expected him to be this prolific after “History Will Absolve Me,” but I’m glad he has been.
Segal has been around for a while. Got his start in the LA underground scene producing for Abstract Rude and basically every member of Freestyle Fellowship. He’s one half of The Kleenerz with Self Jupiter. Glad to see him collaborating with Woods too.

Dettol is a highlight on Paraffin, and that is saying something.
When can we expect this? Any updates on Elucid?
As far as this album, I agree. Kenny definitely set a high bar, and Woods is spitting. Incredible album. History will always have a special place for me, but this is probably his best...

my previous fav. was "dour candy" but i think the beats on this are better, as is woods. dude's current run will go down as one of the best ever, i need to be a part of it so this is really just me trying to speak it into existence (i am on his next project 3 times though, if he sees this its too late & our songs are too good)
trying to get one in with elucid as well before it's all said & done but that's like trying to capture some gutter ass lightning

he's a fantastic lyricist but his patterns, pocket, and rhyme schemes seem like afterthoughts. he's doing the cdot honcho and/or killah priest on heavy mental thing where he's wandering from rhyme to rhyme with no real anchor, and sometimes little-to-no actual rhyming. his raps generally feel like slam poetry that happen to be placed over hip hop instrumentals. i think i have to be in the mood for this kind of rapping and i rarely feel like that these days

Maaan... I love this style of loose, slightly rambling/abstract then switch to poignant themes type of rapping. I wouldn’t want every MC to start doing it, but I appreciate the ones who do it well.

(except maybe DOOM? I'm not sure anymore)
I think maybe the reason why his poetic rapping (not sure what else to call it - I don't think slam poetry over beats is accurate tho) still sounds fresh to me is how emotive his delivery is. I feel like the amount of variance he manages to pull off even within that style keeps it from sounding so one-note or hackneyed like some of his peers.
it helps that he hasn't disappeared up his own ass, too. he raps like he's living the reality that 2019 is.
