"Too many black artists' wiki pages don't say anything "

It's a shame. Look up any Beatles LP wiki page. They tell you every damn detail down to what day the songs were recorded to who did what etc.

I just looked up Sheila E -The Glamorous Life LP wiki page. It doesn't tell you anything but the tracklist and I KNOW there's people out there who know what went down with the recording of that album. I'm just ranting but I wish *we* would put in a little more work. Lol.

... who noticed the same thing and would spend time writing and updating Wiki pages of either Black musicians / artists or aspects of Black culture. He would talk on here how few Black Wiki writers there were. He also mentioned that many of the pages written about Black artists either were filtered through the writer's implicit bias or used misinformation.

I wrote a Wiki page once, for Bob Power. (my nerdery knows no bounds)

It was interesting to write but I never thought to do again. Maybe writing Wiki pages would be good to learn more about some artists that I respect and admire.

I think part of it has to do with a lot of these artists get interviewed by rap mags that don't have a substantial online imprint. And it's not like there are electronic archives of old issues of the Source, Rap Pages, XXL, or even Vibe. So most of these interviews that have background on these artists or albums get lost to time.

When it comes to r&b & hip-hop artists, most people see Wiki-pages as lame or not the real deal, but will go to an artist's website, fan-site, bandcamp, twitter, etc. for all the info they want to know.

I will say when it comes to hip-hop magazines I was one of them who use to treasure them and still have 99% of every magazine I bought (Stress, URB, Rap Pages, Ego Trip, etc.) but actually doing scans & posting them up is just too much work when the people who actually owned & wrote for these magazines should be the ones that give a damn enough to do it, be that's just another excuse why I'm too lazy to do it I guess.

Also doesn't The Vault have all the info on Shelia E.'s Paisley Park releases anyway?

you should make it a team project if this is something you care about and actually want to address
see who's interested, which artists those cats have expert knowledge of, and start threads to share knowledge and citations once you determine the artists that you're going to start with.

there should be a post anchored on the front page, where people can post the different wiki articles that need more work

B/black music.

The only ones that are readily available are songs from artists who were megastars or from artists that white people really like (Otis Redding, Aretha Franklin, etc.) But basically any decent Rock song that's come out since maybe the late 1960s, you'll be able to find a tab online.

I think the issue is that alot of this stuff is put online by white men, so what's available reflects what white men are interested in.

I didn't think too much about this post until I went to Patrice Rushen's wikipage because I was curious about when she started playing and saw this travesty of a wikipage.

They said it wasn’t properly sourced even though I included sources.

Maybe some weirdo with an anti-rap bias is behind it. Shrug

...there is a Wikipedia media that provides anyone to post items that isn't *their* information, meaning even if it can be proven, it will be removed because they didn't write it. I'll still go to Wiki and will check up on things and yet the main page of an artist is maybe five paragraphs, if that. Regardless of who attempts to update the pages, it will be removed.

I'm confused by the first sentence here. What is a "Wikipedia media?" and what do you mean by it "provides anyone to post items that isn't their information?"
