"Tragedy Khadafi sues Ice Cube and Master P (link)"

https://www.vladtv.com/article/250908/tragedy-khadafi-sues-both-ice-cube-and-master-p

A Queens legend who played a major role in hip-hop's decorated history, Tragedy Khadafi is now suing both Ice Cube and Master P for copyright infringement. Tragedy even released the paperwork on his Instagram to show that he's put real legal action behind his claims, that accuse both hip-hop legends of stealing his prior work for their recent albums.

The work in question is Tragedy Khadafi's debut album, Intelligent Hoodlum, that Tragedy believes represents his likeness and therefore is a commodity that he owns. For that reason, once Master P put out an album in 2017 of the same name, and Ice Cube released a new record called "Arrest the President" (the same name of a Marley Marl-produced track on Tragedy's album), Tragedy felt he needed compensation and that the formal lawsuits were his only option.

"Its official they left me no choice," Tragedy wrote alongside the paperwork, "the lawsuits are in #noaurasnatchin," in reference to Cube and P 'snatching his aura.' In other posts, Tragedy elaborated on his position further, saying "As i said earlier @icecube wasn't the only #aurasnatcher and #culturevultures is not necessarily white people or just a white person. So since Master P had decided to put out an album titled intelligent hoodlum I had to sue him as well ... for a mill ... #factual... and for the record ....i tried on several occasions to reach both of these ...so called men before i took such action ...on sum g check shyt...b.u.t im a grown man and this is bizness #stopaurasnatchin."

Lastly, Tragedy signed off by saying "I was told that certain songs define u as an artist ...and that among the many i have made #arrestthepresident and the #intelligenthoodlum are the pillars ...#fightforyourlegacy"

I don’t want to hear about Migos dropping a “hot new song” called “Hey Young World” or Nicki Minaj dropping her new album “Fear of a Black Planet.” There are a million variations on titles out there. Creativity is actually important. Care enough about your genre to know it well enough to avoid exact similarities in titles, hooks, etc.

Put "Arrest the President" into Spotify and I see no less than a dozen songs of the same name by different artists. Some are even hip hop. So is he gonna sue all them too? Doubt it. There may be a million variations as you say, but not many that would fit a short song title. There only so many words that mean a certain thing. Go ahead and come up with a 3 word title that is as concise and direct as the term "Arrest the President" is.

Calling the song Arrest Trump is more concise and more direct.

I guess he's in dire need of some cash flow, now if somebody samples his music, that would be another thing but just using the same name as his song isn't something to really sue on, and how does he know nobody else has used those names for songs before him, it might be some local indie kat from the 60's who could've use those same exact titles which are on the books copywritten.

...but there are thousands of songs with the same names so it would be interesting to see how one goes about claiming ownership of a song title.

You can trademark a phrase and then try to stop people from using that phrase - but titles are not copyright-able.

That's why so many books have subtitles now - they'd probably be able to sue if someone used the title + subtitle combination.

And hollow coming from him. I doubt he'd like it if Phil Collins sued him for using the song title "Against All Odds." Or if The Crusaders sued him for using "Street Life." Or James Brown for using "Black and Proud."

I'm sure his arguement is that cube and P are both rap artist and are in the same genre as he is....

Whats gonna hurt his case is that the songs will sound NOTHING like his music.

You take the blue pill, the story ends. You wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill, you stay in Wonderland, and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes.

On "Story Never Told," from the Immortal Titans album he released earlier this year, he accuses Marley of "aura snatching" by claiming that he (Marley) stole the idea of the Lords of the Underground group from him.

....before putting anything out ...now if they had tried to use a slogan or name of some corporation instead of an individuals music? OHHH NO!!! cant let that happen ...either way, these 2 new albums will be long forgotten, and Tragedy's legacy will live on in hip hop history ..like it or not, he's a big piece of the Juice Crew story even if only some people know about him.

...I just knew if I said it, the statement probably would've gotten overlooked; but yeah, I'm surprised anybody from No Limit Records (other than Snoop & Fiend) is still releasing music, they basically birthed a whole generation of wack rappers but nobody want to hear new music from Master P. though.
