Dude said Illmatic was EP length in comparison to SoT2.
I pointed out that one was an album of 9 complete songs and the other was more of a mixtape with single verse joints.
SoT2 is dope as shit to me but I’m not labeling it an album.
Because it’s not.
I’m also not adding Vol 1 to it to make it an album because that’s not how it was released.
Sorry if I deal in reality.
And yes...the length of time does play a factor. I have no problem with SoT joints because they’re dope and I will purchase everyone he drops because Thought is and has been my favorite MC since 96.
That, however, will not make me act as if they are full albums. That’s not what he’s even intending on releasing.
11. "Top 3 - Noname, Armand Hammer, Saba " In response to Reply # 0 Sun Dec-23-18 01:40 PM by Kosa12
My top 3 are easily:
1. Noname - Room 25 2. Armand Hammer - Paraffin 3. Saba - Care For Me.
Each of these records improved or equalled the artists past work imo. Care for Me is a huge improvement of Saba's debut album and is better in literally everything IMO. I find his writing to be very compelling and really like how he tackled the subject matter (death of best friend/cousin) on the last two tracks. Armand Hammer (Billy Woods, Elucid) maintain their streak of dark, abstract hip hop - the juxtaposition between the styles of the two MCs works really well imo and the rapping is amazing. Elucid is one of the best out right now. Noname is currently my favorite rapper and on Room 25 she is much more personal than before and the production doubles down on that jazzy/neo-soul sound from telefone. She has this subtle, almost spoken word flow that I just can't stop listening to.
all of that said, the two albums you listed are great and are worthy of a spot in any top 3 of this year. Although the Lupe is more complex and more impressive, I return to the Masta Ace more often - it's just great to hear a legend like Ace put out what is definitely his best album since A Long Hot Summer. Polo is the perfect producer for him.

Elzhi and Khrysis. Sleeper album of the year because it came out early 2018.
This had a lot of replay for months after it dropped. A few tracks made my best of 2018 mix.
Lots of good competition this year. Lupe is def my #1. I loved the Masta Ace album, but I would replace that with Phonte. His shit was just too smooth.
Royce Da 5' 9" - Book of Ryan Black Thought - Streams of Thought Vol. 2 Rejjie Snow - Dear Annie Black Milk - Fever Pusha T - Daytona Skyzoo - In Celebration of Us Lupe Fiasco - Drogas Wave Jericho Jackson - Jericho Jackson Masta Ace & Marco Polo - A Breukelen Story The Black Eyed Peas - Masters of the Sun Vol. 1
filter it for whatever you dont consider an album. maybe i need to put jericho jackson higher lol
