"Has Anyone Actually Retired In HipHop For Good?"

Post-88 (meaning their first time on wax was 1988 to present), has anybody sincerely hung it up for good and never appeared on wax again?

The only person I can think of off the top of my head is E-Roc from The Coup, who I believe quit rap after their second album.

Anybody else?

Peace,

Spirit (Alan)

Yes, he’s VERY much still in the music industry. He talked about his career at length during his much-discussed Combat Jack (R.I.P.) interview. He went into website development before becoming the DJ he is today.

I heard Will & Jeff is working on a new album which will be dope, not sure if he will do 100% his own writing or get others a one or two others for hot singles but it doesn't really matter, he's an icon and still got flow.

When I first heard Jaden spit, I knew he had it, and his father made sure he polished his pen & flow before coming out with music, that's what we need these young kats to have, a lil' guidance.

They used to be punks and their punk/alt-rock rep makes that direction very very vital to punk fans.

Hip-hop fans might not be too thrilled with a Beastie Boys project without MCA, but punk fans.....yep

I haven't made it a secret on here that I'm a HUGE PUTS fan. My favorite group of the '00s. I could tell that they were slowing down, but I at least expected the third "Getting Off Stage" EP to drop. And I was also hoping for that second "American Man" installment. Ah, well.

I'm going to hope his retirement won't last forever, and he'll still at least put out/record music.

Me too

I'd be happy if he just made beats for other underground cats and/or instrumental beat tapes.

I seem to remember Boots saying back then that E Roc got a shot at a good paying job and took it. Can’t be mad, The Coup never sold what they deserved to and not everybody wants to do the low album sales rapper struggle.

Funny story: I once got into an argument with a former friend because I made fun of him for not knowing the difference between Q-Tip and Magoo. I kinda understand how that could happen but still...That man was a basic dude.

In response to Reply # 51

Rasco & Planet Asia was a dope duo as Cali Agents, Planet Asia still killin' it on the mic with various projects and still hasn't gotten the props he deserves on a bigger scale but people who have heard of his music know he's dope.

With Rasco I thought he would be trying to do the same things as Planet Asia has been to keep his name out there but when you posted his name I had to make sure cause I swore I heard him rhyme on something in the past few years & I was correct.

What it is (from what I can tell) he's still rapping but not doing albums or collaboration albums, just features; the weird part is most of his recent features are with rappers from overseas (such as UK, France, Netherlands, Poland, & Austria), I guess that's where the money is for boom bap rappers these days.

His rhyming on his last release was a little disappointing on a few cause it seemed more like freestyles rather than written joints; but what I still want is Kev & Grap Luva to do an album together with both of them doing production and rhyming back to back like EPMD type steeze.

I'm not sure about the other two rappers of the Fu-Schnickens (Poc-Fu & Moc-Fu) but Chip-Fu (aka Jungle Rock Jr.) still does music, he suppose to have had an album out about three to five years ago but he just been sitting on tons of music, and every year he puts out a few songs here & there.
