"Westside Gunn -Hitler Wears Hermes 6 Official Reaction Post" Thu Nov-01-18 11:14 AM by stone_phalanges
This album dropped on Halloween. With all the love GFRX gets on these boards I'm surprised there wasn't a post already. It has more SADHU beats so just off looking at the tracklist I knew to expect something nice.
For me this rivals his last album, just smaller scale, shorter, less epic. Loving it so far wondering what everybody else is thinking. Is anybody getting sick of his style? The sonic aesthetic is very strong but does not deviate much. I could see that getting old after a while, but I'm over 10 albums in and I'm still feelin' it.

okay. I get that everyone has their little exclusivity period where the album is mad overpriced on their website at first and then released to the streaming services a little later, that's fine.
I do however ask DO NOT SELL ME AN ALBUM WITH CRAPPY METADATA. No tags, no album art, no track numbers, WTF. Did I pay just to be digitally abused by the artist?
To paraphrase Royce the 5'9, this was weak cyber trash. Nothing too redeemable about this album to my ears, even the superior voices from Benny The Butcher.
Perhaps I need to listen to this again, but nothing grabbed me on my one listen to this.

Conway's been releasing material of his own fairly recently. I think he dropped two projects after G.O.A.T. dropped.
What I'm much more disappointed in (aside from how terrible this latest Westside Gunn was) is how the Shady Records affiliation means pretty much nothing in terms of raising these dude's visibility or making it easier to purchase physical product. It could be complete ignorance on my part, but I don't think Shady is doing anything for these Griselda dudes.

I bet that there's a full blown Gunn & Conway album being made piece by piece with the Shady budget....but Gris aren't interested in chillin and waiting, and after Shady fumbled the SlaughterHouse situation (where they sat on the bench so long that they broke up) so Shady isn't getting in the way like they usually would.
IDK if this is the best way to go....but I don't think going a whole year with no music would be a good idea for them either.

the beats on blakk tape were awful too.
daringer is such a one trick pony lol
but his debut was supposed to be "G.O.A.T." w some big name features, actual singles, etc and they ended up dropping this version of it on Soundcloud , Christmas eve lol.
I feel bad for him ...at this point though Benny is my favorite and I cant wait for Tana Talk 3, hes light years ahead of the other two imo

Conway has a more recent release called Everybody is F.O.O.D. if you are curious. Regarding Benny, I think I've said it on these boards before, but dude needs a much better ear for beats, at least on his solo projects. I believe he has an album coming up with beats from only Alchemist and Daringer, so hopefully that'll satisfy my ear.
It's funny, because while Westside Gunn might be the worst rapper/lyricists among the three Griselda dudes, he has the best ear for beats, or at least he seems to get the best beats among the three artists. For instance, I wish Supreme Blientele was his album instead of Westside Gunn's as I'm certain he would have did much more with those beats.

Conway and Benny are miles beyond Gunn, when it comes to rapping, but he KEEP the fire beats on his joints. To your point, too...Benny had THE best verse on the entire album on Gods Don't Bleed.

The two main reasons I disliked this are the beats on this were subpar and Westside Gunn's lyrics/flow was subpar. When I listen to Westside Gunn, I go in knowing he isn't the best with his lyrics, but at least in the past he is able to get good beats and is able to flow competently over them. I found little of this on the latest project. It's not a matter of me getting tired of him personally, I just found this particular release to be abysmal trash.

That's funny cuz I would rate the beats better than the rhymes on this. I love the beats I kinda assumed the rhymes were the sore point on this for those that weren't feeling it.
full disclosure I'm deeply connected to Buffalo and have alot of pride in a rapper from there finally blowing up.

I can safely say I'll never get tired of these Griselda/Daringer style of beats or the contributions they get from folks like Alchemist, Pete Rock, etc.
Conway demolishes Gunn, but I'm ok with him as a rapper.
It's the adlibs I'm tired of. "Ay yo!" and "Griselda..." can stay along with Conway's laugh; everything else has got to go. There's one song on this Hermes 6 joint where the rapid-fire gun adlib just goes on and on throughout most of the song, all over the lyrics. And it's on every song.
Overall, this crew falls in that category where I know what I'm getting and I'm perfectly fine with that. I don't need or expect "artistic growth" from these guys and that's part of the appeal.
__ I don't like the beat anymore because its just a loop. ALC didn't FLIP IT ENOUGH!
Flip it enough? Flip these. Flip off. Go flip some f*cking burgers.(c)Kno
