I feel like I'm leaving out some big time DJ performances tho. Scratching has fallen so far out of the mainstream that it's hard to recall 30 year old songs and pick out nice work.

...i always assumed it was Cool V ..there's also the track "cool v's tribute to scratching" from Biz 1st LP where that's definitely Cool V on the cuts.

My favorites are ones that I remember the exact scratches when I think of the song. A few Dilated joints with Babu and of course a lot of Preemo too.

I feel dumb for not knowing that. Sounds dope on Poetry too. But I still think Doomsday is worth a mention just because scratching is such a prominent part of the song.

I always liked Sinista's scratches on Common's 'Resurrection' .....not the mot technical, but always sounded great to me....especially at the end when he flips it a bit with the 'resurrec-resurrec' part

With me being from the southern east coast, bass or booty music was #1 when it came to hip-hop and almost 90% of all the music had DJs scratching in it's music early on but as time went by less & less songs became about the chorus hooks, chants, & big range of bass notes instead of the classic rapper & dj type songs.
One of my favorite artists who made bass music but also did a lot of sampling like the up north kats was Dj Magic Mike, and he had the deepest bass and the illest scratches on all his songs, the remix to "M&M Gettin' Off" off his second album was so crazy, after I first heard it, I wanted to scratch just like him, so I studied his scratching just like everyone who tried to imitate the way Dj Premier did in "Premier In Deep Concentration".
