"We not gon' talk about Prince's Piano & A Microphone 1983 album?!"
This came out on Friday.
I realize that for serious Prince fans, this material is not new. Nonetheless, I'm curious to know OKP's thoughts.
I purchased the CD today at Target on my way to work.
Now, before someone asks: No, I don't still *play* CDs; I rip them into my iTunes library with an external hard drive. I still buy *some* CDs for completist/collector's reasons and/or for the liner notes.
My initial thoughts upon ripping off the shrink wrap: where the fuck are the extended liner notes?
I did some research and apparently, those only come with the deluxe edition. From Rolling Stone: "A deluxe edition, featuring both a CD and LP, will come with a booklet featuring new liner notes from Prince’s then-engineer Don Batts, who presided over the original sessions. The booklet will also include never-before-seen images of Prince.
*eyeroll*
So, basically, I gotta buy a vinyl record I don't want for the booklet with Don Batt's contributions?
Yeah. Not cool.
But back to the music. What y'all think?

i've been buying physical CDs that come with a free download just to have something physical. disappointed that most CDs dont come with liner notes anymore.
i've been thinking of doing records instead of CDs as thats something you could display. dont know that either would hold or increase in value but it just seems like 20 years from now it would be cool to dust off the record instead of a CD.
regarding the album, im one of the weird people that still hasnt gotten into prince. im starting to turn the corner but not quite there yet.

Getting into Prince can be overwhelming. His vault is SO deep and there's so much information out there.
I started late, around 2010. Keep in mind, I pretty young (1980s baby). Before then, I was a just a casual fan who knew the dozens of greatest hits. Then, I downloaded this unauthorized joint called Box of Chocolates and heard "Wonderful Ass." I discovered an early version of "Extralovable" around the same time. I realized this dude had so many amazing songs that he didn't release and that really piqued my curiosity.
I'm curious to know how this official release stacks up to the bootleg that the serious Prince fans been had.
Is the sound quality drastically better?

my ex was huge intro prince, like prince over MJ and she loved MJ.
so i have heard many of his songs but they just never grabbed me. we saw a tribute to him after he passed and it was great. his music seems to be awesome live.
since that show his songs are growing on me. when they get used in movies/tv/commercials i can get with it.
i did use a blog and got like the first 15/20 years of albums but never even unzipped them because i was still missing like 10 albums. when i check out an artist i havent really tried yet i like to start at the beginning and go through all of it back to back.
seeing how many albums there are i just dont know when ill be able to.

i got the deluxe edition.
in short, the final package is well put together.
i had each of these tracks already. there are others missing from this collection! nothing is new here. i still love "mary don't you weep". but remains an interesting insight into his creative process. overall, i wasn't expecting much from a release that i'd already heard. i got it for the collector aspect. i looked at it once, read it, and then put it away.

I’d have to go back into my hard drives. To believe there are about 5-6 songs missing.
It was called “Intimate Moments with Prince”. > >What songs are missing? This is the tracklisting for the >official release that came out this year: > >“17 Days” >“Purple Rain” >“A Case Of You” >“Mary Don’t You Weep” >“Strange Relationship” >“International Lover” >“Wednesday” >“Cold Coffee & Cocaine” >“Why The Butterflies”
