Watch Rakim Perform "Paid in Full" Backed by a Full Band on NPR's 'Tiny Desk'
POSTED BY DIMAS SANFIORENZO
The original GOAT performed two of his most iconic songs for NPR’s Tiny Desk series
It’s been 31 years since Rakim (alongside partner Eric B.) released the classic debut album, Paid in Full. The God MC hasn’t lost a step.
Rakim recently appeared on NPR’s Tiny Desk, where he performed three songs. One of the tracks was “King’s Paradise,” the title track for Season 2 of Marvel’s Luke Cage, and Ra’s first new solo track in almost a decade. Rakim also performed the title track for his debut album and “Know the Ledge,” a song made famous by its placement on the Juice soundtrack.
What makes this performance enthralling is the fact that Rakim was joined by a nine-member band. Making things even greater, was the fact that Ali Shaheed Muhammad, of A Tribe Called Quest, played bass while Christone “Kingfish” Ingram was on the guitar.

flight (him & his manager), handled the soundcheck...then did a no show during show time, went to his hotel & basically had to force him to answer. I didn't see anything incriminating, so I cannot confirm if he was on any drugs/alcohol, but it wasn't a good look.
This was the 2nd time I booked him, first time went off without a hitch, we had to re-schedule the concert and it was kinda shaky but ended up being a great night. Booked him again for a completely different venue/event and it almost ended up super shaky, but Allah (swt) was on our side lol.
That being said I'd still work with RAKIM again over Foxy Brown (she's insane), Yasiin Bey (flakiest artist ever), Lauryn Hill (Satan) and DJ Scratch (diva). I really wish every artist was like NORE, Too Short, 50 Cent, The Roots/Questlove & Raekwon. Super easy to work with.

I don't care if it's natural causes or extraneous stuff...Somebody needs to do something to help him.
