"get over it. boom bap is dead. it's a dinosaur sound now"

it's the 21st century
rnb ain't singin' the same way sam cooke and them sang soulful songs
it's new rhythms and chord progressions and shit
same with hip hop
i ain't sayin' every rap beat got to be a trap styled beat
but boom bap is a crutch
it's more than one way to make a dope grimy edgy soundin' beat without it having to sound like it's stuck in the 90's or a wutang/beatminers/primo, etc bite

life always offers you a 2nd chance...it's called tomorrow. use it wisely

...isn't boom bap? Or the "Black Cream" remix? Both definitely boom-bap. And I enjoyed both quite a bit, for the record.

as boom bap
apparently there's a disconnect somewhere as to what boom bap is
either me or you guys
i won't be so arrogant as to say i'm right
i feel boom bap is essentially primo beats
i don't look at early kanye or just blaze or bink beats as boom bap, i.e. the production on the blueprint

i look at boom bap as tribe's mid lps, and gangstarr's lps, and m.o.p. and krs one's primo helm joints

i think the difference is subtle, but to me, there is a difference
i wouldn't say donuts is boom bap material
i'd say showbiz and a.g. was boom bap

There might be new ground but all of the creators and innovators are either legacy acts (Premier, Pete Rock, Tip to a lesser degree) or closely approaching that (9th).

There just hasn't been a lot of innovation or freshness to a lot of boom bap. Phryme, the first album moreso, had some freshness. But that's one album in God knows how long.

I cut my teeth on boom bap and g-funk but things change. There's always that great music on the mid 90's thru the mid 00's to listen to.

anybody can find something they like
and champion and enjoy it
me? i rarely listen to current hip hop or rnb anymore
except to digest the new releases to see what's the current state of production
most of my musical listening is old lps and genres, mining for samples.

that's what's on constant rotation in the car and the crib when i play the old lps

i find today's music a bit too vulgar to play regularly and loudly around my kids

We (or whoever really likes boom bap) shouldn't expect new hip-hop artists/producers to make any more (new) boom bap (though we could probably expect hip-hop artists from a different country than the USA, like China or Japan, to make their version of boom bap)

We shouldn't expect old hip-hop artists/producers who made boom-bap in the past to make any new boom bap.

uh.....doesn't exactly seem completely clear if we shouldn't expect those two possibilities. Then again, boom bap never seemed that special to me (I could tell what it was, but I never hoped for a lot of it to be made in abundance or whatever - it was fine for what it was whenever it was done)

24. "Nicki Minaj Abandoned Trap For Boom Bap On "Queen" Album (SWIPE)"
In response to Reply # 0

https://hiphopdx.com/news/id.47262/title.nicki-minaj-abandoned-trap-for-boom-bap-on-queen-album#

Nicki Minaj is featured on the cover of ELLE’s July issue, and the story has arrived online. In the interview, she delves into everything from her Queen album to ex-boyfriend Meek Mill’s legal battles.

While speaking about the upcoming LP, Black Barbie revealed the project will be notable for its boom bap beats as opposed to any trap production.

“It has to be 80s,” she said, recalling a conversation with her collaborator J. Reid. “It has to be boom bap. I don’t want to do no trap shit ’cause everybody’s doing that shit.”

Minaj believes it would’ve been too simple to make trap records for the album, which wouldn’t live up to the high bar she’s set for herself.

“I feel like true icons shift music, uplift music, switch music, have the balls to take a chance,” she noted. “The things that people do come so easy to me. I could do it in my sleep. But I’m such a perfectionist that when something is too easy to me, I actually feel guilty. It would’ve been so easy to listen to all the trap music out there right now and say, ‘Let me just copy this. But I wouldn’t have been able to live with myself.”
