as long as an emcee can make great, timeless music, consistently, over 2 decades, that's what matters first most to me. and in my opinion, nas has done that better than anyone ever, though Black Thought might get that title one day.
plus Nas can move the crowd fine when he's not drunk. Its Vegas, give him a pass. I saw him with Damien and he killed it, saw him again during the Illmatic anniversary tour and he killed it also. Im not sure if this one was a headlining event or if he was just part of a bigger set. Its a bad look but whatever..

I agree. Nas' live performance has improved since his beginnings. But I stand steadfast that nobody is seeing neck to neck with thought as a live performer. Not in this Milky Way galaxy yet. When you come to a thought/roots show, you KNOW you gettin the $ worth. You shouldn't have to have questions on if he or she gonna come with it live...ESPECIALLY if you top tier

One of my favorite shows I think.
Also agree that Thought is high on the list of best live performances. Don't sleep on Common too. I haven't seen him in a few years but for a long time I was going to see him play annually and that dude brings a *ton* of great energy to his shows. *waits for obligatory "but did he breakdance tho" joke* .. clown him all you want but the breakdancing is still a great part of his live show IMO.

I dunno, I'll take Thought's 23 years of consistency over Nas' 27 years of hot and cold streaks, at this point. Put them on a song together in 2018 and Thought would massacre him.

Thought / The Roots definitely have a more solid, consistent catalogue ... but Nas is one of maybe 4 MCs who could hold his own with Thought. Would definitely not be a massacre, IMO.

except on Nastradamus it was weak for him - but that was his second album within a year after the original double album got scrapped. There was plenty of great rapping from him in 98-99.
The albums that some people like to pretend aren’t that good - I Am, Street’s Disciple, Hip Hop is Dead, Untitled - Nas was killing it.

I think this is because I am old enough to remember rap as a song-driven, not album driven, format. Which might explain why I don’t give a shit whether Jay Elec releases an album, as long as he keeps releasing individual good songs, unlike others. Nas has a lot of subpar to shitty songs. Whether it’s terrible choruses, crap music, horrible subject matter (rapping from the POV of a cockroach?) Et cetera.

what kinda weirdo setup was that? That was like Nas rapping inside the crowd while they engage in unrelated small talk in the background. No stage, his mic sounded terrible. What a shitshow.
