"the longer the time between, the wacker the next roots lp?"
theory: seems though the longer the time they take between lps, the further they get from their core base, and the wacker the lp comes off as this pretentious, "deep" project
it's like, this is hip hop b! don't overthink it! make some dope beats let thought kick some dope rhymes put that shit out what thee entire fuck? why is it taking this long? you ain't finna reinvent the rap song you ain't finna reinvent the breakbeat what is taking so long? they seem to be on that exhibit b, detox shit and we all know how that turned out
life always offers you a 2nd chance...it's called tomorrow. use it wisely

Quest said so almost a year ago, so they prolly sitting on a lot more right now
with Stro Elliott and Salaam Remi in the mix i think this will be a more Hip Hop focused effort. honestly... can't wait for it to drop, but i trust their process with my life. They earned that at the very least.

Their longest time in between albums thus far is 3 years. The albums that hiatus resulted in were; Things Fall Apart Phrenology ...And Then You Shoot Your Cousin
I do agree that they should be close to done. And the only reason I say that is because they’ve given updates.
Nas’ last album was 2012 but I really haven’t heard him talking about recording a new album. Everyone took Nas Album Done as a statement that his album was complete but I took it as Khaled’s album was done now that Nas is on there.
So the fact The Roots have been giving insight to the process and posting instrumentals etc. creates an expectation from the fans.
I just want the album to be raw hip-hop beats with Thought rapping his ass off. Fuck all the no name guest spots. Bring in a few legends for the guest spots and make a damn classic.

Although I am kinda worried since it was supposed to have come out by now according to some of the reports from last year.
I know they brought in 9th Wonder and someone else whose name I can't remember as Executive Producers. I hope the two of them didn't just come in and start from scratch. ?uest posted a couple of videos back before they announced the leadership change with snippets of beats which sounded promising.
I know ?uest said Richard Nichols was good in that he would put firm deadlines on the completion of the projects since I guess the band would just workshop beats without end.
I am kinda with you Block that they just need to drop something. Maybe they're waiting for that ONE song to materialize. Either way, I'll be copping on Release Day.

I'm a fan but not of their latest string of albums, it's like ever since they went to Def Jam it's been a snore after another snore, then they go do music with artists I'm not even checking for or liked in mad years, so no I haven't heard the Betty Wright shit, no I don't even like John Legend's wack ass, still want to hear the Elvis Costello albums, especially the remix one but I was so scared to listen since "their" albums haven't lived up to their Geffen/Universal discography.
Do I root for them every album hoping for it to be dope, yes I do, that's why I still frequent this place, but I've given up on when they will get back to basics, when it drops it will drop, not going to be so pissed to say they're going to make a wack one cause it's taking too long and they might overthink it, you never know, it might be what they needed to do.
I'm just kind of pissed that they make some dope interludes while on the Jimmy Fallon Show, but they never use those heaters or tell us they can't use 'em.

I think it’s more that people want more Black Thought. That’s the biggest thing. He barely rapped on the last album. Album before that came out in 2011 and he wasn’t on that one as much as usual either. It’s been a long time since we got a lot of Thought.
