"America is Dying Slowly and other dope hip hop compilations"

Revisited America is... today and this shit might be my fav hip hop comp. Not a weak joint on here and some all time favs.
Starts off with Biz and Chubb Rock over a Prince Paul beat.
Pete Rock and the Lost Boyz.
All time Wu banger with America.
Classic Goodie Mob.
Mobb Deep at their grimiest.
Classic Organized Konfusion.
De La on a Beatminerz bounce.

Don't know how much Posdnuos contributed but he is listed as the A&R.

The Soul in the Hole soundtrack, Soundbombing, Lyricist Lounge etc.
They don't make compilations like that anymore, do they?

That soundtrack was banging as hell, I still haven't seen the movie or documentary for it though...lol.

Loud Records had the dopest artist roster at one point in time, nobody on that label was wack far as I remember.

Lol

That’s my all-time favorite OC joint and on the shortlist of all-time favorite hip-hop joints period.

The epitome of hip-hop.

Soul In The Hole is still the better compilation though.

Mobb and Comon tracks on Soul are superior to theirs on AIDS

Although Wu and OK joints on AIDS were superior.

your bitchass feelings might even get more hurt if I tell you that I prefer OC's It's my world from Soul in the Hole over this.

I def listened to Soul in The Hole and Soundbombing way more back in the day, that's why AIDS is sounding fresher to me right now.

This is true. "Modus Operandi" and "High Expectations" are GOAT soundtrack cuts.

Chubb Rock and Biz are a great combo. And that Prince Paul beat is so big and stupid that it all comes together perfectly.

In response to Reply # 0

The soundtrack was pretty good, didn't care for some of the poetry skits but that was part of the movie but far as songs go, almost all of it was dope, you had:

Big Pun feat. Next "Sex, Money & Thugs"
Goodie Mob feat. Esthero "The World I Know"
Noreaga "Thug Poetry"
Black Rob "I Dare You"
Q-Tip "Hey"
Ol' Dirty Bastard & Coolio "Doin' It In The Park"
Dead Prez "Sellin' D.O.P.E."
Mobb Deep "Feel My Gat Blow"
Tekitha & Cappadonna "I Can See"
Brand Nubian "Time Is Running Out"
Flipmode Squad "Take A Walk In My Shoes"
KRS-One & Saul Williams "Ocean Within"

Only wack song on it was the Most Wanted with Pras & the Product, other than that it was a decent hip-hop compilation.

This was at the height of Erick's & Def Squad's careers, Erick & Redman was making dope beats after dope beats, too bad they didn't do another compilation cause half these artists should've came with something than just those joints.

Redman "Funkorama"
Xross-Breed "The Vibe"
Passion "As The"
Jamal & Calif "It Beez Like That Sometimes"
Keith Murray "It's That Hit'
The Wixtons "Up Jump The Boogie"
The L.O.D. "I Feel It"
Duo "On The Regular"
Tommy Gunn "Fear"
Domo "Ready For War"
Erick Sermon "Reign"

This one is one of those compilations that came out in 2008 but many didn't know about or forgot but had a lot of heat on it, at first I thought it was another dj mix cd but it's basically a non-mixed compilation of song featuring well known emcees with a few unknowns with tunes produced by Ninthwonder, Illmind, M-Phazes, Buckwild, Black Milk, Analogic, Ayatollah, Khrysis, & Marco Polo with tracks:

East & Silent Knight "Here We Go"
Royce 5'9, Elzhi, & Supastition "Best To Do It"
Silent Knight, Skyzoo, & Emilio Rojas "Get 'Em"
Torae, John Robinson, Talib Kweli feat. Tiffany Paige "Someday"
Phonte, Wordsworth, K-Hill, & Masta Ace "Ladder Of Success"
Soulstice, Eternia, & Kenn Starr "It's Time"
Edo. G, Diamond D., & Kaze "Nobody Like Me"
Chaundon, Shabaam Sahdeeq, Finale, & Sean Boog "Mind Of A Genius"
O.C., Torae, & Kaze "Three In The Chamber"
Silent Knight, J. Sinastah, & Archrival "This Land"
Wordsworth, Strick, & Torae "That Knack"
Skyzoo, Emilio Rojas, & Median "Start It All Over"

And two bonus tracks with remixes of "Someday" & "Best To Do It"

I use to bump this for a month straight, you can't go wrong with a producer & emcee line up like this.

"Wide Angles" was a basically a compilation of songs by artists on the Blidside Record label, every song was rap except for one song, overall it's still a great album with dope production from Dj Spinna, Joc Max, Nick Wiz, The Creators, Kenny Dope, and a few other producers:

Truth Enola feat. De La Soul "Voicetress"
Mos Def & Talib Kweli "Another World"
Big Kwam "Verbalize (DJ Spinna Remix)"
L Swift & A-Butta "Ride This"
Grap Luva "Touch The Sky"
Invisible Mics "Way Past Go"
"Alfonso Greer aka Joc Max "Situations Realstic"
Pharoahe Monch "Tooley Crew Personified"
Mr. Complex "Do It Up"
Subterranean "My Style Is Phreaky"
J-Live "Shyste"
Big Twan "One For The Lyricist"

This was suppose to be a Tommy Boy Records & De La Soul project where they were the executive producers of the project to help Tommy Boy round up other underground hip-hop artists and this was an artist showcase compilation, this isn't great but it had some butter tunes that were being played on underground mixshows the year this came out. I guess this didn't get the recognition it deserved so most of the artists on here that were signed to Tommy Boy got dropped and went ot other label or their album got shelved.

Self Scientific "Best Part"
Jigmastas "Let Me Hear It"
De La Soul "So Good"
Defari "Blast"
Talib Kweli & Tony Touch "What They May Seem"
Strick & Royce Da 5'9" "It's Over"
Da Matrix "Beat Biter"
Natural Elements "Live It Up Pt. 2"
Maseo & Kovas "Words & Verbs"
Masta Ace "Splash"
The Bad Seed "Pockets"
Medina Green "I See"
Royce Da 5'9" "I Won't Be"
Deadly Snakes "Culebras (Remix)"

This is the first volume where Nervous Records was wanting to put together a compilation of hip-hop artists and got Fat Beats Dj Eclipse to turn it into a mix cd but you could buy the three vinyl EPs of the songs unmixed as well.

Polyrhythm-Addicts "Not Your Ordinary"
Wizdom Life & Matt Fingatip "Fruits Of Labor"
Shabaam Sahdeeq feat. Black Sun "Any Minute Now"
Nightbreed "I Got Your Back"
Mike Zoot "Love & Stink"
Breez Evahflowin' "Forsaken"
Apani B. Fly Emcee "The Woman In Me"
L Fudge "A Conversation With Hip Hop"
Jigmastas fat. Joc Max "Comments: To The Sure Shot"
Duo Live "Maintain"
Capital A "All Day"
Natural Elements "Tri-Boro"
Kid Thun 'I Wonder (Life)"
The Raidermen feat. Mr. Voodoo, L-Swift, Sean Prince, Lace Da Booms, & Mike Zoot "Strateg"

This the second compilation Nervous Records did with more underground hip-hop artists and a few on their label at the time, some of the artists I never heard of until this cd came out. This time they got Dj Spinna to do the mixing of this compiation and of course he supplied original beats for the intro, outro, and an interlude, and like the previous volume Nervous put out three EP 12"s with majority of the songs unmixed.

Godfather Don "Pick Up The Mic"
K-Otix "Seven MC's Part II"
Masterminds "Sunshine"
Frankenstein "Agony & Ecstasy"
Danja Mowf "Like Flies"
Pumpkinhead "Daily Bread"
Network Reps "Simplistic"
Lone Catalysts "Lone Catalysts"
Screwball "On Point"
Mathematik "Better By The Letter"
Mr. Khaliyl "A Little Higher"
The Unspoken Heard "Better (Butter)"

I have to say I slept on this compilation cause the only reason I bought this was cause Kev Brown & Grap Luva joint, for a long time I didn't even listen to the cd then I picked it up and listened to it and was surprised how I slept on most of these songs, wasn't a fan of Kenn Starr rhymes but everyone else was pretty dope, Oddisee has a lot of production on this if you like his beats.

Oddisee, Kenn Starr, & J-Live 'Quest To Find"
Kenn Starr "What Up"
J-Live "Who Do You Call"
Phonte & Big Pooh "Long Time Comin' (Makin Moves)"
Oddisee "Yes Y'all"
Smash Mechanics 'Concrete Steps"
Kenn Starr "Walk The Walk"
Wordsworth "Here We Go Again"
Oddisee "Brother"
Dash "In The Middle"
Kaimbr, Cy Young, & DJ Roddy Rod "Everyday Campaign"
Oddisee & Kenn Starr "This Is Hip Hop"
Dash "Life To Live"
Kenn Starr, Asheru, & Talib Kweli "If"
Kev Brown, Grap Luva, & Oddisee "Keep On"
Quartermaine, Kenn Starr, Dash, Oddisee, & Wordsworth "You Don't Know The Half"

I used to go to Rasputins music and dig through their CD crates for cheap compilations. this one stood out to me. i think a magazine called 4080 used to make to make some really good bay area mixtapes.

Tree & Dow Jones "Club Aquarius"
Myone, Kay, & De Loach "Hush"
Little Brother & Median "Right Here"

I only got this cause the record shop I use to frequent use to get all the Nu Gruv Alliance vinyl (Stones Throw, Conception Records, Industry Records, Blackberry Records stuff), anyway I saw this compilation on vinyl, had a artists I knew of so I took a chance.

One Step Beyond '"Mr. Tuffy"
Mykill Miers "Bring It On"
Kombo "God Bound"
Kazi "Called Your Bluff"
Unspoken Heard "Da Music
Lexicon "Not Pseudo"
Motion Man "Duck Duck Duck"
Fear "Shooting Stars"
Rhettmatic "How Long Have You Been Listening"
Pumpkinhead "Wack MC's"
Dr. Oop "Run This"
Trademark "Labyrinth"
Songodsuns "Gallaleo"
Scram Jones "Liquid Heat"

This compilation was pretty decent except for the two LNMO songs "Street Wise" & "Stick Up The Stuck Up" feat. 2Mex, which sucked, LOL.
