Chris Hemsworth I was going to suggest one of my favorite songs from high school, Papsmear's "Die Killing", Blessed Death's "Incoming Wounded" or Carnivore's "Inner Conflict" but... Frankie Goes To Hollywood's "Two Tribes" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s6-2b_3Dmxw REASON: He's in 12 STRONG, a film about being a soldier in combat. THis too was one of my favorite songs in high school and is the first record I bought when I moved to Washington State from Honolulu when I discovered a great record store called Licorice Donut, the "black record store". I'm a huge Zang Tuum Tumb head so this is partly in honor of all the ZTT/Trevor Horn maniacs out there.
Carrie Brownstein The Wipers' "D-7" https://youtu.be/MRa5BWOOGZM?t=1m28s REASON: I suggested this before for her the last time. Nirvana made this song famous but it was because Kurt Cobain was a huge Wipers fan. The Wipers were an indie rock band from Portland in the early 80's in the era of Poison Idea and Smegma and this is in honor of Carrie, since she would know the importance of this song, being from Portland. This is the chorus: "Straight as an arrow Defect, defect Not straight, not so straight Reject, reject Towards anti-social So dull, so dull"
In other words, the song is about not wanting to be a non-conformist and as someone who has been a fan of hers with Sleater-Kinney, I hope she will hear this as a means to honor her love and passion of Rose City (and yours too). It also honors "Old Portland", as Portland has changed drastically in the last eight years so it's meant to be a salute to old school PDX.

Ricky Martin Maggie's Dream's "It's A Sin" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mYLPmjpX5yo REASON: Maggie's Dream is the band featuring Martin's Menudo bandmate (and writer of "Livin' La Vida Loca") Robi Rosa so it's also a tribute to not only his good friend but their Puerto Rican background. These guys reminded me of a band from Portland who had a small bit of mainstream attention, the Dan Reed Project, and their song "Get To You" so I just want to see if Martin reaches the couch and goes "hey, that's Robi's song." It's also a way to say they've both come a long way after Menudo.

Trevor Noah Malcolm McLaren's "Soweto" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=afZ7VCIeSvQ REASON: Another nod to Trevor Horn production, the keyboard work Thomas Dolby did and the Art Of Noise production team but basically a nod to Noah's South African upbringing. Key lyrics are:

The song is meant to be an anti-apartheid song ("never be afraid of the dark") so, from one Trevor to another. This is one of my favorite songs on McLaren's DUCK ROCK, celebrating its 35th anniversary this year. Also, that man with the ultra low voice in this song is the source of the sample in Art Of Noise's "Beat Box" and McLaren's "D'ya Like Scratchin'".
