"Ante Up (remix) is the best song Premier never produced (add others)"

It wasn't until two years ago that it was pointed out that Premier didn't produce this. (DR Period produced the track.)

It had the bells, good baseline, and even the video game noises in the Edited version. Hearing that Premier didn't produce this blew my mind.

But what are other songs that aped a producer's style but did it in a way that paid homage to that producer's style?

Or I was on discogs.com and noticed that Ante Up wasn't one of Premier's credits.

Looked it up and lo and behold it is credited to DR Period. Ridiculous beat.

Shadez of Brooklyn - Change and Afu Ra - Whirlwind Thru Cities are songs that confused people for one reason or another. Change was on his Haze mixtape, and Whirlwind had Primo on the cuts.

I remember when the bootleg came out two guys got in a shouting match about it in the barbershop I used to go to. I had an advance promo copy I got from the used bin at Plan 9 and I showed them the liner notes. Funny thing is neither of them knew who Jay Dee even was, which made it more hilarious now that they thought it was Jermaine Dupri.

was best. The "he does your style better than you do" sentiment was a little too heavy from his fans, but I always enjoyed hearing producers interpret other producer's methods.

Premo song has ever been seen as a "club banger" in that sort. Plenty get love at Hip Hop head spots, basically for the "Hip Hop Hands" and head nodders...Mass Appeal, 10 Crack Commandments, all those. But like, none ever set the club off and had folks amped like "Ante up" did, so I never thought it was him.

is none of those songs had folks jumping around and pushing each other.

Dwyck, 10 Crack Commandments, Unbelievable, Mass appeal, Come clean, NY State of Mind, all those were bangers to Hip Hop heads...mainly 35+, and especially on the East Coast. But only "Ante up" would possibly get folks jumping around and amped up in the way that "Wild out" used to, or anything near how Benjamins and those tracks were. Premo's tracks are all head nodders to me...Ante up had even more energy, even if it was more because of MOP than the beat itself.

but

the idea of what a banger was changed

i saw preem DJ a set of nothing but his songs and people were jumping around the ENTIRE time.

The song Primo produced for Limp Bizkit. That song is kind of wacky and fun like Ante Up. But you have a good point about the sound of Ante Up not matching many songs in Premier's catalog.

Usually, my guesses about the songs producers make re accurate, but Ante Up just threw me for some reason.

It may even be because I used to produce, and could always tell certain songs that weren't made by a certain producer, even if it sounded just like their style. This is the case with a whole lot of Quik and Dre beats, Timbaland and Pharrell as well.

The "N2gether now" actually does sound a bit more fun and loose than a lot of Primo's songs.

That makes sense.

The video game sounds on the edited version clued me on Primo having some role in the song along with the sound of the instrumentation, including the drums.

Thanks man.
