"new jaden album"

i've been following this kid for awhile and i'm very impressed, good to see his debut album finally arrive. it's very diverse, musically rich, top notch production. definitely my favorite rapper of the new generation. and he's pushing a very positive message in general if you dig deeper and see what he's up to.

a new interview: http://www.complex.com/music/2017/11/jaden-smith-icon-video-and-interview-on-syre-album

thoughts from the lesson?

I did a post in GD and got a bunch of
snobbery either about who he is or how
young he is. The comments about the
actual music were pretty positive tho.

He has his own identity and seems very
self-assured on this album.

My favorite tracks are:

Falcon
George Jeff
Fallen
Icon
The Passsion
Lost Boy
Hope

That track Falcon is kinda next level with
the seamless transitions from house to trap
to acoustic guitar. Just lovely.

but couldn't get through it.

He has no style, channeling Drake, Migos, Ye etc on every damn song.
some beats are cool, but he is just not a good rapper.

I used to listen to DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince. Will was bubblegum and
often corny, but he could spit a mic to pieces and rock a party.
This has none of that potential.

Yeah.. and Logic raps at least as well as Kendrick hahaha

Look man. Im not a fan of the rappers i named, so it doesn't help he is jacking their styles...
But cmon. This kid grew up with ALL the opportunities, connections and access. He got a free spirit and i think he's smarter than he sometimes seems. He'll be fine...

this is just not really good

skimmed and couldn't get through it all in detail. Not feeling how he raps. Years ago I remember liking "the coolest" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ljbhRXjoDjk . I like his flow and cadence on that- all smoothed out.

meaning: everyone's going to continue to sleep on his music because of who he is (ignoring the fact that he is more technically able than a lot of other rappers) until he drops some really good music then people will do a 180. It's already happening on the critical end.

the only benefit they've provided is money which gives him the freedom to do whatever
but art is in his bloodstream and his talent has him being respected

J/k. If you don't like it you don't like it. I didn't find it mind-blowing, but I did think it was good. I think there is enough pure trash out there(some of it very popular even) to listen to something that sounds good even if it isn't breaking new ground.

my thing is, nothing he's doing here is special. So I do think it's fair to say he wouldn't be getting anywhere near the amount of notoriety he's getting if not for his folks

just from a technical perspective alone.....speaking of technical ability, Jaden Smith is a more able rapper than 70% of his contemporaries. The only flaw (not really a flaw but I digress)is that he came from money.

As this guy matures, his songwriting will mature as well. Willow is following a similar curve with her music as well.

I hope one day my kids can be the beneficiaries of some form of (legal) nepotism. If you got it, why not use it to help your children, not his fault.
