"Kelela - Take Me Apart"

Dropped this Friday. This is a pretty good album, on my first few listens it's striking me as futuristic 90s R&B in a very good way. It's kind of like the happy medium between Aaliyah/TLC etc. and FKA Twigs (who I am a huge fan of) to me if that makes sense. I was actually a bit disappointed with her EP a couple years back (I know lots of people liked that EP though), so it's good to hear her completely deliver with this. Favorite tracks so far: Better, LMK, Waiting

but I was also hoping for something along the lines of Rewind too. Still her best track imo.

The more I like it. The production on "Truth or Dare" and "Onanon", especially the drums, is dope as fuck. The strings on "Turn To Dust" as well. I think I'm going to revisit her past EP.

S.O.S. should’ve been longer. Altadena is probably my favorite. The second half of that song is pure bliss.

this is mostly ambient mood music for trendy Black/hipster folk in LA.

there are some nice sounds/atmospheres, but really only a a couple memorable songs

I agree w/ the poster who said that this ambient music for blipsters...that's exactly what I thought upon first listen.

Perhaps it's a grower?

Friday, October 5, 2018, Kelela is dropping a remix album for Take Me Apart, which would be turning 1 this week since the album came out on October 6, 2017. The cuts feature remixes from Kaytranada, Rare Essence and more.

‘TAKE ME A_PART, THE REMIXES’

Description: “this project has been evolving in my mind since i was deep in recording Take Me Apart. i obsessed over production choices on the album and my only solace was knowing that the songs would be reimagined in this way so, it’s not just a bunch of remixes…it’s how my worldwide community of producers and DJs communicate through difference. it’s also about the camaraderie that we experience when we find the overlaps. the same songs get to exist in these alternate realities which means different people get to have a relationship with the music. maybe even with each other.” – Kelela

RE: The Rare Essence track
Kelela is from D.C.

I'm not sure what's going on with the ALL CAP song titles but whatever.

I look forward to the release of this project.
