"WHICH EMCEE HAS THE MOST APPEAL WITH THE LEAST CONSCIENCE LYRICS"

I usually stick to the lyricist who are actually saying something. I've always been a lyrics fan over a beat fan. Wondering what lyricist you are addicted to that has very low bar standards regarding Lyrical Depthness.

ODB might be my goto here - swag, flow, style, yet he really ain't saying too much... but HOW he says it makes it everything.

I'm the same as you, by the way. Which is why I was able to respond so quickly. I specifically remember in high school, in my most intense backback stage, a friend of mine was looking thru some of my CDs ... which included your typical BlackStar, Common, Roots, etc ... the alternative hip-hop that brought me here. Then he came across a Big L CD and was like, wait what ?!

I didn't really have an explanation besides the dude could rap his ass off and said things in a way so interesting that I can't *not* listen to him, even if he didn't really do a ton topically beyond brag raps.

Of course he's faaaaar from the only rapper I listened to (and still listen to) who doesn't have much to say topically. But he always topped my list of "most talented MCs with the least to say."

Big L was dope as fuck.

Big L has "lyrical depthness" and vocabulary; after re-reading it looks like you were looking for someone who really says nothing at all but just has good mic presence, that type of thing.

In other words I wouldn't put Big L in the same category as ODB or Nore in terms of subject matter and context/vocabulary. I nominated him to say he's my favorite rapper who doesn't really go beyond just rapping about how good he is at rapping.

To me it's not all about having something to say on the positive side but just putting down the wordplay on some "I'm the best" and so and so.

Big L. was definitely one of those who wasn't very deep in meaning often, but it's not like he didn't do some conscious songs about the streets or life, it's just he was a emcee who made sure he had some street corner rap battle verses ready locked & loaded all the time that mostly was about he can fuck your bitch, diss your homies, could get the cash or make easy money from spittin', and having bigger guns.

That's what most NYC rappers rhymed about all the time, sometimes I could see why a lot of listeners was tired of it but the same time that's what every rapper on radio was saying too just over more commercial landscape.

Ones who I liked for their complex braggadocios wordplay was Godfather Don & Percee P., great emcees but just tons of flow and wordplay.

He's gotta be in this conversation for a song
like "Tears of Joy" alone where he samples
Bobby Seale talking revolutionary talk about
self-defense and organization, Cee-lo sings
a very meaningful chorus, and Ross comes on
talking about "gettin so much money niggas
can't keep up" just absolutely REFUSING to
white meaningful lyrics even on a foundation
that begs for them.

Either way, "great at rapping" isn't the criteria

but if by "appeal" we mean "desire to listen to" then I could see Ross coming up if we're talking about things other than rapping. I took the OP as meaning "hearing people rap well" but if that's not what it meant then I retract my statement.
