1. of course, 'We Can Fuck'. my GOD. damn.

2. motherfucking COMPUTER BLUE.

2a. for real though. the ONLY problem w/it is the bootleg copy i own is slightly sped up and i'm used to hearing it at that speed. so this one sounds 'slow'.

2b. but fuck all of that. just to have the full length song in such good condition is great.

2c. and i recall discussions about there being 18 minute versions or whatever of this song and i forget how that resolved but for real AFAIK this is it. there's a 14 minute version i've heard that doesn't have anything on it that's essential. this is the definitive version of CB in all of its glory. there's a holy grail of Prince bootleg shit made up of a handful of songs. this is one of them. yes, it has the 'hallway speech'. they called it "Hallway Speech Version" for god's sake. this is IT.

3. THE DANCE ELECTRIC. Andre Cymone should be grateful i wasn't running Warner Brothers Records in 1984. b/c there is NO WAY i'd have allowed Prince to give away a record as hot as this. this would've been the first single on Around the World in a Day. or else i'd have cancelled that skinny motherfucker's record contract. he wouldn't play me like he played whomever was running WB back then. no fucking way this record is not released on WB if i were in charge. just like Berry Gordy didn't let Stevie give 'Superstition' to Jeff Beck...i'd have made sure this didn't get away.

3a. that aside...i am glad to have this in a clean copy. i already had a pretty good copy but this one is better.

3b. i cried @ the memory of the time i saw Prince perform this during a concert @ the United Center. when it happened i grabbed my friend who was there w/me b/c i couldn't believe i was hearing what i thought i was hearing. and he played the entire song...and was so full of joy during the thing. i think this was the same show where he played 'Extra Lovable' and i couldn't keep myself together when he hit this one. and i'm so sad that i'll never have another moment like that but i'm so glad for the ones i had while he was here. i saw the dude in concert 8 times. i feel greedy for wanting more concerts. but i do.

4. Electric Intercourse. hearing the studio version now i understand why this was going to be on PR in the first place. the live versions i had already are cool but i didn't really get it. but now it makes sense. and yes, he made the right choice going with 'Beautiful Ones' instead.

fuck you.

first, if they read this THANK YOU. my goodness.

but...there's more. and we all know it.

@ the very least do SIGN O THE TIMES.

remaster it.

actually...get real cute.

give us CRYSTAL BALL.

fuck that.

give us DREAM FACTORY, CAMILLE, and CRYSTAL BALL.

which means, release a remastered SOTT.

add: Rebirth of the Flesh, Joy in Repetition, Shockadelica, Crystal Ball, Rockhard in a Funky Place, A Place in Heaven, Sexual Suicide, The Ball, Good Love, Teacher Teacher, Interlude, Visions, Dream Factory, Train, Last Heart, All My Dreams. i know Power Fantastic wasn't really included on either of the 3 albums but it's from this era so i'd throw it in there.

you can do it.

we will pay for it.

nothing to lose here.

fuck you.

You can feel that song's energy radiating even through average speakers.

I'll always be in awe of whatever it was that Prince was channeling in his prime.

And this didn't make a Prince album.

In response to Reply # 16

He added lots to it - synth drums, backing vocals by P-Funk, lead guitar, more keyboards, a new rap.

It was updated in 1989 and 1990.

Oh yeah - he also recorded a version with the Revoution in 1986. That one has a whole new arrangement. It's more bluesy. Some fans prefer this version. Not me.

I have several versions of We Can Funk. My favorite is from about 1989 and sounds like this We Can Fuck but has P-Funk on it l. It's still pretty raw compared to the released version. Clinton added a few lines I dig ("I'm testing positive for the funk/I'll gladly pee in anybody's cup/And may your cup overflow/I'll test positive and I'll pee some mo'). And the group's thick vocals are nice (them singing "Weee caaan fuuuunk!" is cool). And Prince's rap is better.

This one here though is the shit. The vibe is perfect. And I much prefer the song with live drums and sparse keys. Add the P-Funk backing vox and that updated rap and it's a winner.

fuck you.

the video is a direct bite of Dylan for sure but the rhythm of the lyrics in Mediate in exactly like that section in Wonderful Ass.

Dylan's song has the same scheme but something's different to me.

I have way too much respect for the man for that,
but I've heard the music.
I like Love And Sex a lot.
We Can Fuck isn't different enough from We Can Funk
for me to be excited about it... I've always liked
We Can Funk anyway.
Every other extra song included is either an
understandable throwaway or something I've heard
before.

Because if you're saying what I think
you're saying, then it's nonsensical.
I'm asking you to state it outright
because I'm giving you the benefit
of the doubt.

and you are intending to hear more Warners financed Prince music too

because those who respect Warners investment in Prince's career will pay Warners for the role Warners has played in releasing Prince's music since the 70's.

I literally never said I intended to hear more,
but I probably will.

>because those who respect Warners investment in Prince's
>career will pay Warners for the role Warners has played in
>releasing Prince's music since the 70's.

That's fine if that's how you feel.
I'm not paying them for his music, because
they wouldn't let the man have his masters
for nearly 20 yrs... he wasn't seeing the
money of the music in that time.
Then as soon as he joins back up with them,
he mysteriously dies, which causes a spike
in interest in his music, so they simply
continue getting paid... even more.
I just don't trust it.
They caused him all that stress in life,
now they get paid off his death. I'm good.
That's how EYE feel.
If you don't like it, you can play on sesame
street with your riddles, but talk to me
straight up like a grown man when you address me.

It may or may not even be presented as
Prince would've liked for it to be
presented... if he wanted it presented
at all.
If you consider them sharing it to be
some kind of service, it's the least
they could do after giving him hell.

So we're back at square one...
I'm not paying them.
Feel free to be mad about it.

That's what you don't seem to understand.
I don't NEED to hear Prince's unreleased
music, especially when he's not getting to
decide how it's heard.

I don't care if WB's hand gets bitten in
putting out Prince's music. He fed them
the music, so they were biting his hand
when they refused to give him his masters
if you wanna look at it all in those terms.

that's actions - not what you would be "fine" with.

Actions speak loud.

In reply #26 you admit you "probably" will hear more things Warners releases from Prince.

So...

you can't even deny you are not willing to take a stand about avoiding anything Warners is involved in regarding Prince's music.

You already listened to what Warners just put out.

You admit in reply #26 you "probably" will listen to more of what Warners will put out of Prince's music.

Your respect of Prince extends only to "would be fine if" about things you are not willing to take a stand on.

>Your respect of Prince extends only to "would be fine if"

My respect is clearly about economics,
since I said I'm not paying WB for it.
That's the stand I've taken.
It's kinda fascinating how that's driving
you to act. Does my stand make you feel
insecure about buying it?

>(*But P signed the deal to do the Purple Rain Deluxe joint
>before he died*)

We don't know if this is the deluxe Purple
Rain album Prince had planned, especially
since WB refused to release it while he
was alive. NOW they jump their happy
asses up and release it after his "mysterious"
death? Something ain't right, man. This
is when his relationship with WB soured
again after joining back up with them.

As one blog pondered:
"Is this the same package that Prince presented to Warner Bros? Would Prince really have submitted a track like We Can Fuck, for example? Would Prince really have submitted tracks that don’t really have much to do with the Purple Rain era, and in some cases were recorded far later? Would Prince really have neglected to include the long-awaited extended version of 17 Days, which doesn’t appear on here? Are these tracks from the real vault masters or from mixdown tapes that WB have been sitting on for years, because they don’t have access to the vault? We may never get the answers to these questions, sadly."
- Casey Rain

Haven't listened to this yet, waiting to get paid so I can grab a hard copy. (And hell yeah I'm grabbing a hard copy, kudos to WB for doing this *right* and someone should certainly get some pay off the work...)

But the question I've been wondering is, who handled the actual work of the remasters and clean-ups on the boots and whatnot? Is anyone from the era involved behind the boards?

The org got a bunch of audiophiles jerking off to waveforms of the OG master talking about how it doesn't peak like the new master and how harsh it is and all the details are lost like we all exclusively listen to our shit with a tube amp sitting on our beanbag chair.

Do you mean the spots were out of stock or they simply didn't carry it?

I know Best Buy carries the 2-Disc and 4-Disc versions. My favorite, local record store (Street Corner Music in the Detroit area) carries both versions. Target only carries the 2-Disc in store, but the chain is selling the 4-disc version online.

I love it! The bonus material is sweet. I love the concert on the DVD. Great packaging! The sound quality is nice. All of his WB needs to be remastered for better sound quality.

...took it out at the mix stage.

Just pressed *mute* on the bass channel and felt that was what the song needed (or didn't, so to speak) to give it that extra something.
