"Which artist is due for a comeback?"

rappers like bun b/juicy j/mc eiht/e-40 make comebacks, not necessarily to their primes (in terms of notoriety mostly but possibility quality too) but to where they were relevant again in the mainstream.

Sometimes it's younger artists reaching out to them (MC Eiht on M.A.A.D. city, E-40 on IDFWY, sometimes it's creating a moment themselves (Juicy J w/Bands).

Pete Rock's gotten back a level of attention with his projects (around We Roll w/jim jones & max b), collabs with folks like Smoke DZA (& the noise around Planet Rock with Planet Asia, although that didn't drop).

E-40 is good for making his own noise every 3-4 years, but getting on IDFWY w/Big Sean was a big look for him. Then the Warriors getting popping brought some more eyes to stuff like Choices (Yup).

DJ Quik's gotten it in with Problem, songs with Dom Kennedy, etc. I could see him doing an ep w/YG & it wouldn't surprise me if he still has a big summer record in him with someone like schoolboy q.

With MC Eiht - he really had a chance to capitalize off being on GKMC - had Which Way Iz West? w/DJ Premier come out it would have gotten attention.

Bootcamp Clik had a comeback when they got down with 9th Wonder & them.

Shyne had a shot when he got out of jail, but even though Godfather Buried Alive had a couple good songs, his third act stuff has been pretty terrible.

When Method Man hooked up with A$AP Mob for Trillmatic (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8xda8NvdEfA) it was a good look. Meth Lab came out a couple years after that & didn't sound great/inspired. Had he made a run working with some of the current popular folks in the weed lane (curren$y/dza/wiz)/NY rap (bronson/droog) & then came with a really good project. especially with all his other entertainment stuff popping off.

Who else could you see gaining momentum again, either off stuff of their own, guest features, or having current folks in the mainstream reaching out?

After his feature on Chance's Acid Rap tape, and the recent surge in Chicago artists coming out I thought it could be his time to make a return to the Radio

the chance spot was a good look & twista came with a good verse. only thing at issue is his flow sort of comes in/out of style depending on what's popular, & he's never really changed it up to be in line with something like ThE Migos

e-40 is one of the most underrated careers in my opinion. He has a song that registers on the mainstream every 3-4 years. 2006 he had a big year with tell me when to go/u & dat & snap yo fingers. 2010 he had bitch w/too short, 2012: function, 2014: choices & IDFWY

Hmmm..

Think Ja blew his chance...

Fat Joe & Remy obviously having a nice little run currently...

Flutes back... a la Scott Storch

Du Rags Back

With this Dj Khaled x Rihanna record could help Wyclef make a new run maybe..

yea, he could definitely have made some noise, especially if Fyre would have popped off.

>Fat Joe & Remy obviously having a nice little run
>currently...
Fat Joe's sort of like 40 in that he always pops up with a "hit" every few years

>Flutes back... a la Scott Storch
Yea, just saw him rockin at Roots Picnic. And for producers, there are less barriers from getting popping again. I could easily see a scott storch ending up with drake wayne & nicki on some Make It Rain shit

>With this Dj Khaled x Rihanna record could help Wyclef make a

yea, same with will.i.am.

Yea, Cam has had interest online going strong, his public enemy mixtape was hittin, etc. i could see him and/or dipset making a big move with the right pieces (a just blaze banger? some heatmakerz for nostalgia? that + linking up with some new folks)

jeezy's been sort of bubbling at he same level for so long now, he's sort of in that TI lane where he has his core fans but i dont know many folks getting excited for new music from him. Plus, freddie gibbs has been sort of dropping jabs at him for a minute. he was talking cash shit on desus & mero, so he could either shy away from it or come back on some old jeezy/gucci shit.

I mean - he's never "left, left" but he's not had any real success in many years - mainly because of limited output.

But an album with mainly 70's INSTRUMENTATION could (WOULD) be a huge success.

Not DAP Kings sounding either.

Yea, at this point artists like Stevie have nothing to prove artistically, & IDK his pockets but I'd imagine he's not hurting for $. Would love to see artists in this spot (ahem, Jay) either 1. explore something different from their past work (& not just hopping what's hot at the moment, i mean taking some chances) or 2. going back to the sound they made their best music at with a modern twist.

creativity & vision off the charts. lowkey, she's been 5 years ahead of everyone for the past decade.

I could see her topping New Amerykah & coming with something that's a mix of solange's cultural impact, janelle's critical adoration, & that reminder that she's the one

Yea, producers always have the edge in making a comeback since it's a much more collaborative process. Like, I could see someone getting a hit sampling an old Teddy track, then Teddy coming back with his own joint for someone like Drake.

jay's been smart to never really leave the public eye though. even when he has a long gap in his music, he has strategic features, pops up at events, etc.

At this point, I don't doubt that he could put out really good music but he's been hit or miss the past decade so not holding my breath.

Surprised him/Bey didn't get a video for Shining out for the summer

A return to a Kamal-centered sound for a Roots or related project, especially with those vintage rhodes and organ sounds etc.

I'd love that. Strip away the guitars again, let Kamal shine.

If either of these groups reunited & put out really solid work, there would be an audience for it (especially the fugees).

so I'd love it on a personal level of the Pharcyde ever regrouped, but haven't these dudes grown apart too much on a personal level to ever want to sit down in a room and write and record lyrics together?
