I always check for these dudes. OneBelo's solo joints have been great to good, Senim Silla's was dope, Decompoze's album was dope, i was playing it the other day.

doesn't look like Silla is on this joint looking at those credits. copping this to listen while i work.

Masters of the Universe has to be one of the big events albums of my musical life. So much hype. So much anticipation. So much promise of this being the beginning of a new movement.

Consequently, so much disenchantment.

It had a few nice beats. But, wow, so boring. Every song was literally the same rappity rap babbling about how real and pure they were.

And then, 'Binary Shuffle.' Uhhm, okay, guys. Do that shuffle.

Just really underwhelming. I can pretty much pinpoint this as one of the albums that began my turn away from hip hop.

It was the first Binary Star album (Waterworld is essentially the same album as MOTU)...I can't see how you would've been invested in them and then disappointed by MOTU.

Go re-listen to "Glen Close", "Evolution Of Man", and "I Know Why The Cage Bird Sings", they were not at all rapping about rap, and OneBeLo has done plenty his solo stuff. "Wolfman Jack" too, although that hasn't aged as well.

But really, the straight up rap tracks are the best..."Reality Check", the title track, "One Man Army", "Honest Expression", "What It's All About"...the majority of it still sounds incredible.

And, no. The album has **not** aged well. It is so stuck in that late `90s/early 2000's cookie-cutter MPC style production, it's kind of cringe-worthy.

The internet was a great way to connect with like minded people, but there was no Spotify, no YouTube, Napster was unreliable, and the only stuff that was available in Real Audio was the more well known stuff. So, yes, it was literally just some dude's description of the music on a message forum that I was going off.

WaterWorld / MOFTU actually got me excited about the state of hip-hop in 2000/2001. In fact I remember a guy who posted as KoalaLove (who made a lot of prolific posts here) did the album artwork.

MOTU is till one of my favs from that era

There's a couple of to me "generic" boom bap beats and I didn't like the extended interludes ("Wolf Man jackin for beats", for example), but there's some goodness here.

Plus, it's made me want to catch up on One Be Lo as I think I lost track of dude after "The Rebirth".
