I'd listen to them more, they are my favorite hip-hop group, but being that their music isn't available to stream on Spotify I'm forced to break out my archaic iPod everytime I want to listen to them.
Buhloone Mindstate is such a damn good album. Easily my favorite though I love them all, of course.

For sure - their stuff is among the few discs I still keep really accessible for that reason, esp. after their album dropped last year and really reminded me of how fresh they were/are. It's a shame that they haven't been able to resolve everything to get it streaming...
I need to go back to Anonymous Nobody for more listening, too, bc once I gave the ATCQ album a good listen it sort of took over my new hip hop playlist for the rest of the year and then some (it's *still* getting regular play from me).

Couldn't agree more. It's really frustrating especially knowing that they are losing out on so much well-deserved money due to legal bullshit. Of course we as fans suffer by being unable to access their amazing music but it sucks knowing they're suffering more by not getting paid.

Same exact thing happened to me. Both Common and Tribe's albums took over the end of 2016 and into 2017 for me, listened to them both pretty much non-stop through the end of February or so. Gotta get back to AN cause there were definitely a bunch of great tracks on there.

Totally digging this new album El Gran Poder from Lagartijeando. I don't really know what to call the music represented here - interesting combination of electronic and live instrumentation, beat-oriented with an explicit connection to popular Latin American musical forms and rhythms. Really cool guitar work throughout. Lots of off-kilter rhythms, unexpected details and layers, and just all around variety. Occasional vocals. At times reminds me of Bonobo but just hints here and there in the way he develops his stuff. Good chill outside soundtrack for the holiday weekend maybe?
Couple tracks:
"Antofagasta de la Sierra" - the guitar work is just light and lovely. love the way the tone of the track starts to really change around 1:30, the scattered guitar parts and drums falling away to almost silence at one point
"Chukisaka Sublow" - longer track, this goes through all sorts of subtle changes - polyrhythms that resolve clearly only to scatter again, mantra-like vocals sped and slowed that come and go, and a clearing of it all near the end of the track that is just right.

That was such a fantastic guitar, too. It was just the Squier version, but it was the J. Mascis signature model, so it had some real thought behind it.
And yet, the tone it was giving off was just too similar to that of my Telecaster. When I pick up a different guitar, I want to feel like there's something completely different to it. And I just wasn't getting that with my Jazzy.
So, I went for another Squier, just to try things out, and got the newest Vintage Modified Jaguar one. I kind of wanted the Olympic White one, but I figured I should change it up because that's what my Tele is, so I went completely into left field and got the Surf Green (which is more a of Minty green to me, but I digress).
It's actually a super dope little piece. Super bright, wonderfully jangly. And not much of a learning curve, as it's actually a shorter scale than my other guitars. I've been wanting to get more of a brighter tone for a while now, so I've started playing the Jag exclusively with a pick (I always used to fingerpick) and it's made a huge difference.
Now, if I could just get my pedal priorities straight.

I'm going to try and listen to some of the albums over the next few weeks.
I have two songs stuck in my head which I heard at work and it's driving me mad because I have no clue what the songs are called or who the artists are. I'll figure it out eventually.

Listening to Guillermo Klein's "Los Guachos V" - just started listening to this guy and his band (Los Guachos) this week and he pushes all my musical buttons. He might be one of the most interesting and successful jazz takes on certain modern classical tropes I've ever heard --- you can hear Reich/Glass/Part in the mix, but it's having a big conversation or party with the entire history of jazz. Feels totally natural. Listen to the "Burrito Hill" movement of Suite Jasmin on the album. I'll try and post some links later.

Holst - The Planets. Well actually I'm watching the 2016 Proms on Youtube where it was performed by the National Youth Orchestra. I think it is a genius orchestral piece by Holst, and I get a lot of enjoyment watching the young people perform it, plus I like to see the love and passion for the music from the conductor.
The sun is shining and the birds are singing and I'm feeling very happy and grateful for all these simple pleasures.
