I'm fully on board with the studio putting the vault stuff with the reissues. I can't wait to hear the unreleased tracks that come with albums like Parade or Sign o the Times.

but I absolutely love all the musical touches that made it onto the studio version like the added piano.

But I'm sure if I'm a SNOB snob. More of a positive enthusiast, maybe?

Yeah it would be nice to get the First Avenue show. But getting clean copies of all the other stuff is a HUGE plus.

I know Prince woulda hated all this being done. But he also hated YouTube and stuff like that. I love the man's music he shaped what I listened to. But it kinda like taking your parents car out when u were younger without permission

I gotta say, though....I"m excited for Deluxe...but, I wish that the original long versions of each of the Purple Rain album songs were a part of this package. The world needs to hear the nearly 20 min version of "Computer Blue", for real.

and there aren't long versions of every song on PR.

Baby I'm a Star doesn't have one except for any of the extended workouts on stage. like the one from the Syracuse show - which is included.

Take Me With U doesn't have one AFAIK.

Beautiful Ones does but it's not really worth hearing.

same for the longer Purple Rain as originally performed in its 1st Avenue debut. Prince smartly cut the song down removing a verse or 2.

When Doves Cry has no long version recorded in studio AFAIK.

Darling Nikki - i haven't heard one.

When I posted about that on an old Lesson post somebody came through and said the longest version is about 12 minutes.

For this box set, I read in some post this is the 11 or 12 minute version

like MME states in reply #17 some think there is a Computer blue version that is significantly longer than 11 or 12 minutes (as 18 or nearly 20 minutes keeps coming up somehow).

i THINK thats right, IF i remember correctly i thought i recall finding 3-ish 'alt' versions of Computer Blue and i THOUGHT i recalled one of them being 2XL ...i'll have to dig around in my cds n cassettes and see if i cand find em all...

Yeah, that's true...but imho the 12-minute version (or is it the 14?) may be more definitive because of the inclusion of the "hallway speech", which longer versions I've heard have lacked

The longest version of CB known to man is 14 minutes long. Period. Ppl talking about a 20 or 18 minute version are either lying, exaggerating or referring to a rehearsal recording.

The 14 minute version just has an extra 2 to 3 minutes of sound effects and feedback at the end.

that raw demo/rehearsal version is the one i remember digging a lot...it was the first long version i had ever heard of CB ,,,it was prob in 85 when i heard it, for some reason i remember that being extremely long....maybe thats the 18ish minute version that folks are thinking about...

The 11minute version is superior.

Prince and nem made the 14 minute version. He cut it to 11 and then down to 7. The 7 minute version was mastered for inclusion on PR but was cut at the last minute to make room for TMWU (a fucking tragedy! That song belongs on Apollonia 6's album).

The 14 minute version is out there. It just has more feedback and sound effects at the end which is why I say the 11 minute version is the better one.

The 11 or 12 minute extended version was cut from a 30 minute version. Only the previously released 11 or 12 minute version is included in the rerelease.

Many people haven't seen Syracuse '85 (although most of us have seen it upteenth times) so that's still good, I guess.

are only going to be available on the CD box set? No vinyl box set? From what I understand, only the Paisley Park remaster of the official Purple Rain album is coming out on vinyl. That blows.

Haven't listened yet. I was a bit nervous another shoe was going to drop and they were going to pull this for one reason or another, but the fact they've released two unreleased tracks ahead of time is a promising sign!!

Some sources say it exists, have it. Quest has it (shown on his instagram etc). Not that Looptopia fn made one either. The officela unreleased one has verses with Brenda singing them (as it was meant for her anyways).

It's not the 17 minute version or whatever but it damn sure is a legit extended version.
