Like Lacab ain't a bad album, but it's a universe away from the genius that is Bizarre and as a big fan of that record (imho, top 20, possible top 10 hip-hop records of all times) it was disappointing to say the least.
Hell, between this and "Beats Rhymes, Life" I looked at Jay Dee like the movie world probably looked at LL Cool J; the kiss of box office death.
Thank god someone slipped Slum Village Vol 1 into my hands...

..as much when I met him at a Starbucks on Fairfax here in LA a coupl years ago. Bizarre is classic but it's a product of its time while Labcab is timeless; it could have dropped this week and none would be the wiser that it's actually 23 years old.
Labcabin's main fault is that it was the follow-up to one of the best albums in the history of hip-hop. Like you said, Labcabin isn't as purely fun as Bizarre Ride but the rhymes are still playful and the production is nice as well.
He's idolized but I think his remixing skills are underrated. This, the Lucy Pearl "Without You", and Keith Murray's "The Rhyme" remixes are all timeless to me

>Shame they split like they did.
Split, briefly reformed as a quartet, and then split apart once again. A Behind the Music, Untold, or whatever behind the scenes special needs to be made about The Pharcyde; even more drama could be told if you factor in all the drama surrounding J-Swift.
"Sean sparks like John Starks, nah, Sean ball like John Wall" - Rest In Power Forever Sean Price.

>Of course compared to Bizarre on a fun scale it pales. But >listening to this joint puts a beautiful smile on my face. >Shame they split like they did.
considering the serious nature of the raps. Nothing fun about the content though. The raps were meticulously written and damn near every verse made some sort of statement.
