They did the right thing by not waiting too long between the EP and the full-length. Especially since they repeated all the songs on the EP on the LP.
You're such pests...now, what is it you want? In your depths of your ignorance, what is it you want? Well, whatever it is you want, I can't deliver because I just don't see it. - Orson Welles

hes one of the few people that is an instant cop for me - i dont ask questions, i don't generally fuck with leaks - i just buy
so he drops a new tuxedo EP a few weeks back - im hype, i buy
but they're just part of this album, which now i'll have to buy as well - if you're gonna put out a pre-EP or something, it should be the lead single and some outtakes, or SOMETHING. I felt a little duped.

how did you buy the EP though? if you downloaded it, you should be able to "Complete My Album" on iTunes so that you're getting the money you spent on the EP off the cost of the full-length.

This is where I'm at on it but I've only heard the songs once. Aka this could grow on us.
Nothing punches me in the face like a Do It just yet tho. And I did NOT listen to the ep. That's right, I showed unreal in 2017 types of restraint and waited for the album. I'm prolly gonna listen to it again from front to back with repeats as I feel like it.

It's hard to be both retro and innovative. Like they did this genre as good as they could on the first one, so there's not really room for improvement.

I bought it, and I'm not mad at the purchase, but its not as good as the first one. I just had relatively unreasonable expectations. It's still a very good disc. "July" has a lot of potential, as does "Shine".

There's no element of surprise.
I had a better time with it the 2nd time around (with headphones).
That 'Shalamar guitar' was in full effect on a few of these songs!
Rotational!
The challenge comes when you're trying to bring up recent stuff on retro songs. I can't decide if I want that or not.
Sorry if we've been over this, but who is the lady singer who keeps sliding into Mayer projects? She's with the Tux and I swear I heard her quite a bit on Man About Town too.

I get some might clown me for saying that, but yeah...it's still dreary as fuck around my way. I need some sunny 70s and ladies showing some skin to be listening to this, which it pretty much the case for Mayer's music besides the joint with 14kt (which sounds great at night IMO).

It's ok, same as the first installment but i dont know if its something about Mayer Hawthorne's vocals, songwriting or what..but it makes their throwback to post disco/80's funk kind of lightweight...it comes off really teeny boppish and this is coming from a guy who's favorite period in music is the one their trying to emulate or re-create.
Another thing that i think would help on the arrangement side is bringing in a funk bassist who can really get busy slappin'.
