I cannot really compare this album to any of Lupe's other albums because I would have to slight those other albums. Even Lupe's worst albums have a handful of songs that have incredible verses. I can't really say that I was wowed by anything on this one.
If this album were named Lasers Light, it would be named perfectly....and it would still be a bad album. ---------------------------------------
i mean, i get the other explanation of this being old shit that he's putting out to satisfy his contract
but these tweets...its like, ya, i guess its cool to separate out "moonshine lupe" but it would be cooler just to have professional standards.
And again, i know now what this album is about, so i dont fault him for it - but these tweets feel very much like "spin" - just say its a throwaway album to finish your deal if thats what it is.

this is his first independent release
my guess is this is just a part of his exit strategy, he seems to be in legacy-building/lemme-set-myself-up-right-for-retirement mode right now
the fact is lasers was his most commercially successful album...it makes sense that he would put out an album to cater to that audience (maybe even especially so now that he's independent), and it makes sense that he would get that one out of the way first
i think the next two will probably cement his legacy as one of the best writers rap has ever seen

He did "Touch the Sky" with Ye here in Atlanta for the "Glow in the Dark" tour. Kanye had that weird stage set, and while trying to pass each other, Lupe tripped, Ann's that shit was hilarious. Like, the predecessor to the Texas cop that did that tactical roll and body slammed that lil girl.

Apparently yes it is. Hence the name Drogas Light. Just something to fulfill his contract which is why there old material. The real Drogas album should hopefully blow this away.

I see a difference with Lupe because this is pretty much how all of his albums roll out to some degree. He has some loosies that pretty much confirm that he's lyrically up-to-par followed by a bunch of trash that sounds forced. Lupe's pretty much stacking the deck against himself though.....now Drogas has to deliver.

Play the album all the way through. I don't know what it is but he's starting to fall behind. Q and Kendrick are growing and I'm not sure he is. I do love the topic of the divine feminine for an album, I just wanted more.
