I was about to post in ?uests thread for people to interview for QLS and looked up Steve so I could share some references and found out he passed almost 3 years ago.
He was the owner of a record/tape booth at the Roadium Swap meet on the Border of Torrance and Gardena in LA. I grew up steadily buying his Dr Dre, DJ Quik, TonyA mixes and spent hours talking to him and his nephew about music and trying to pry release dates and information about the artists out of them.
He introduced Ultimate Breaks and Beats to LA which played a huge part in Dre's early material.
Youtube playlist of some of the classic mixtapes he sold and commissioned...The intros on Side A and B almost always included some great megamixes and freestyles from LA's underground artists...which was basically everyone because it was only underground until NWA popped really.
