"New Dom Kennedy :("

Literally 30 seconds into the new record & I had to stop it. The Half-A-Mil project was cool, but idk what the hell is up with dom these days. He sounds like he doesnt wanna rap anymore. I know some folks have never been a fan, but at this point even longtime Dom listeners are hopping off the bandwagon.

I have heard that lyrically this album isn't very good, but the beats are supposed to be cool. Don't know what else to say. I still like "By Dom Kennedy."

yea the half a mil joint was cool, but this one? he's offbeat on pretty much every song & just sounds uninterested

loved when he dropped the "rhyme this word with itself for a quarter verse at a time' style, and dig his delivery in general, but I think I fell off after the album that had Ross on it for no real reason other than I figured it wasn't getting better than that (and I was pulling back from criticism / a desire to hear EVERYTHING)

that might have been his peak as far as popularity (although quality wise, I think he peaked around FTWSWL2) because there was a lot of talk about him signing to Ross & MMG. hell, even when he dropped 2 Bad it was getting real play when I was out/on radio. But he's really fallen back & now even the people who really fucked with his music are falling off.

Not even trying to joke but it sounds like he picked up a drug problem. These last couple of projects ain't the Dom that I became a big fan of, listening to the "California" track makes me think its a leftover from the From The Westside.../Yellow Album days because that's out he used to sound.

yea dont wanna speculate on something like that but from personal experience with rappers falling into that, I've seen similar things with their sound before/after

My little brother got hooked on lean and Xanax two years ago, and as much as I love the kid that shit ruined his life.

And when he talks he sounds exactly like Dom does...which makes it even harder for me to listen to him now because I'm 99% sure that dude is messing with the same types of drugs as my brother since they sound EXACTLY the same.

It would have been really easy to stick with the GHS formula and win.

style and flow, but he had personality and the flow was always sharp and in pocket. Now, he is way off beat, doesn't talk about shit or say anything humorous...sounds like a shell of his former self.

what do you think it is? I know he's mentioned in the few interviews in the past few years, really wanting to focus on the business side of things, doing OPM, etc.
